The news is, Dad is running scared 'cause it's only a matter of time before he gets his a55 handed to him by his daughter.
Texas State Criterium Champion - Women's Cat 4
And she's only a wee 15 years old.
She surprised the hell out of everyone this weekend, including me, her training pony. She won twice and placed 2nd just about every way you can do it.
Saturday - solo break with two to go. Reeled back in and then fearlessly surges through the pack to the line. This was no outside and around the pack deal. She slipped through holes that Dad only wishes he could slip through.
Sunday - Another pack finish. Downhill with wind to their backs. I'm not sure how the whole pack didn't get by her with her 44x12 spinning ferociously. 2nd place snipped at the line.
Memorial Day Criterium State Championship - 3 laps into the race, the girl who beat her the day before launches an attack. Kayla responds and chases. This is one of two girls Kayla will not let get away. Kayla then proceeds to roast the girl by gapping her in the corners. I don't think she lasted a whole lap with the Champ. Once she dispensed the sprinter, she proceeds to punch 5-10 second time gaps into the field on every lap. 38 minutes solo FTW!
There's some Cat4 girls in Texas wondering where the hell this one came from all of a sudden. She's aggressive, she's fearless and listens to everything Dad tells her to do and executes it. There will be no more cookie baking recipes being swapped in the WCat4 field waiting for field sprints.

She does appear to be in violation of USAC rules in that photo what with the victory salute and all.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.

Not only does she have the motor, but she's got the recovery gene: the ability to fall asleep moments after getting in the truck.
Now if we can just keep Doggus from leaving her and the Mrs. at the Quicki Mart.
Congrats!

I believe the age brackets here are 15-16 and 17-18.
She's been cutting her teeth racing with the junior open boys. There are 2-3 of the junior boys that are being held back from Cat3 so they can still race juniors. One of them is my coaches son. He whipped my a55 in Sundays race. She will typically last 5-7 laps with those guys, always the last girl standing.
I don't think she realizes the gravity of her State win though. She seemed more excited this morning when she came screaming into the house that she finally nailed the track stand on her road bike. I was watching her from the window and saw her do it for the first time....kind of like seeing their first steps...
This pic is from TMS James Bailey a little over a month ago. She's laying it to what's left of the field in the sprint (WR Style from way back). 1st place was up the road already on a long solo break. 2nd place that day. I wrote it off as a weak field etc etc etc... I was wrong I guess:

Congratulations ! I hope to someday have my daughter take my valuable advice.
I thought it was determined that it's only a violation if it's a danger to other riders.
