According to reports at Eurosport, Vino crashed during the 2nd stage of the Tour of Switzerland and has been forced to retire from the race. :(

That's too bad. I haven't seen to much of him over the last few weeks. Has he been off form? This crash won't help much either.

Will Jan be the team leader now? It's going to be interesting.

brent_dube 06-13-04 11:00 AM

I guess Ullrich will now be expected to defend the lead.

smeghead 06-13-04 11:05 AM

I think T-mobile will keep their options open and have 2 leaders, but Jan is definitely the stronger right now and I don't think Vino would do anything to hurt Jans chances of winning the TDF

Maybe, maybe not. He may be the best rider there, and he may win by natural selection. But I suspect T-Mobile will keep their eye on the prize and not encourage him to do anything he can't recover from before the TDF.

That sucks. How bad was the crash?

Raupi7 06-13-04 12:34 PM

pretty bad he crashed on a traffic islnad (sorry donīt know the right english word) and the team mobile hp says he has bruises and a concusion but the t-mobile doc also said that he propably broke some bones in his hand or shoulder and that would mean no tour...

Devil 06-13-04 01:03 PM

Cyclingnews said he didn't break any bones. I hope they're right.

brent_dube 06-14-04 08:49 AM

Message from the team is that there is a fair chance he might have to miss the Tour.

I think I read in Cyclingnews that he has possible ligament tears in his shoulder with a recovery time of 3 weeks. This could change things for T-Mobile. Fortunately they have a very deep team.

I went to the Tour de Suisse website, clicked on the link to Alexander Vinokouov, and the best I can translate, they are saying he has a broken hand. :o

"...Solich sich seine verletzung an der hand als bruch heraustellen..."

Skyhook!
