New York State TT Championships registration open!

My club is putting on the TT champs this year. It will be a rolling (hilly-ish?) 40km course with plenty of flat sections. Very centrally located in the southern tier of NY. It is open to out-of-state riders (hint-NJ, PA) although to be eligible for medals you have to be a NY state resident.

there are a few rough spots, not really any worse than Wilmington. You need to avoid shoulders around here though, since they tend to have a lot more gravel than upstate. The road is a narrow country road. The turn-around will require serious braking unless you plan on doing some off-roading.

I have done a few TTs on this course and I find it plays out hillier than the Mapmyride profile makes it appear. I have found my average speeds to be about 1mph lower (based on power) than they would have been had the course been truly flat.

I'll definitely be there for the 1/2/3 race, and I might do the tandem race with my wife like I did last year. Sounds like it won't be as hilly as it was last year, and I'm really not sure if that will help me or hurt me.

I might venture up for the fun of it. Need to see what my schedule is like then. Jay Joslyn going to be there? I need a rematch against him sometime.

looking at his usac results I would guess that Jay is racing again. I don't think he went to states last year. hopefully he will show up this time. I figure Don Sproull and Glenn Swan will be there too.

copied from an email from the race director:

All,

Tioga Velo Club invites you to join our club's weekly TT on Tuesday evening 7July in Tioga Center as the TVC does a practice run of the NY TT Championship Course in Tioga Center. This is a challenging, winding course that runs about the length of Halsey Valley Road and back (see attached profile). We'll have orange cones out for both 20km and 40km turn-arounds.

Meet at the Tioga Center School ~6pm, register by 6:15pm, and please sign a standard USCF Waiver for a free "one-day" TVC guest Membership.

Register for the actual Champs to be held Sunday 16Aug at https://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8539

-jeff

here's the included race profile...this is the OUT leg, just reverse it for the BACK leg (it is a bit longer, but the included profile shows you most of the rollers)

we have weekly TTs at different locations. Tuesday night is TT night. Thursday night is road race night.

https://tiogavelo.com/

we have a 10 mile TT just north of Owego this tuesday. I will be there. You can do your first event as a guest or join the club right there.

I will probably jump over and do this after the NY Capital Region RR the day before. Should be a quality weekend, RR State Champ + TT State Champ. I know a few others from my team will be doing much of the same.

Grumpy- see you at owasco?

All,

A reminder to register for the NYS TT Championships is pre-reg only by Friday noon on BikeReg at: https://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8539.

Only $15 so no excuses! Afterwards you can enjoy shopping the cute shops in Owego (8 miles East of Tioga Center), recently voted "cooles small town in America" by Budget Travel Magazine!

A big thanks to TVC for putting on an excellent event and picking an interesting and scenic course. The course didn't have a flat section in it and had plenty of turns which helped keep my mind off my suffering. The area is wonderful for cycling.
Also a big thanks to Grumpy for hooking me up with a bike computer when my SRM battery decided to die.
