Why Elite Riders are a Dying Breed

The BBC has announced the reason men cannot get pregnant...

Q/
In those who managed more than 186 miles a week on their bikes, the proportion of sperm that was the correct size and shape had fallen to 4%, the point at which men may struggle to conceive without fertility treatment.
/Q

"Elite cyclists 'risk infertility'"
https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8124458.stm

Apart from the typical pseudo-science blooper, does this research gives cause for concern?

A sample size of 15 is not science.

What if you only manage 185 miles/week? Time to buy the Trojans?

Well I don't think we need a BBC study to come to that conclusion.

If that study is as described in the article, their methods are terrible and their conclusions are completely absurd. No mention of any type of control, a sample size of 15. There is no way of knowing if the numbers they came up with are even abnormal.

Whatever. I actually had my swimmers tested last year and I was off the charts, the gal at the lab called the test results "amazing." So how would the testers explain that?

Yeah, I only put in around 184 miles a week so I didn't hit the mark.

186 miles = 300 kilometers

For any of you wondering about the odd number.
And for all you lay-people, scientists work in the metric system.

When I was doing 250+ miles a week I conceived two healthy children. So based on my personal experience, which of course is all that matters, I call this report bunk. Feel free to close the thread.
