Not spring yet.
The ice I slipped off and pissed my back off on this morning would like to assert that it's still 2 weeks away.

Just FYI I rode in the park this morning and ran all the red lights and it was cool. There were a few cop cars milling around but no one seemed to be stopping.

We have friends in Houston who have a Bichon named Blake. He is very friendly. When he the husband thought Blake was being too friendly (e.g., jumping on you), he would always say, "Blake, be nice Blake." That's what popped into my head when I saw these two posts back-to-back (except substitute "guys" for "Blake").

You guys made me lose my train of thought. I originally intended to post: Bethel forecast for Sunday, March 6 now showing a change from one hour ago: 50% chance of showers (down from 60%) and high temp of 53 (up from either 50 or 51).

Warm up for 5 minutes and then 1.5 hrs of SST. Most of that was going out in a general ESE direction with winds out of the NE at 17 mph with gusts to 25 mph. By my highly calibrated perceived exertion meter I went much harder going out. By my Cateye wireless I was much faster coming back. I'd guess I might have been pushing very close to and sometimes over FTP on the way out and riding at the lower end of SST on the way back. Then 20 minutes of Z2 to get back home.

And over one hour in the drops. I have my bike set up aggressively: the stem is slammed all the way down, it is -17 degrees, and I have deep drop bars. Good thing that I stretch/yoga and do "core" work at the gym.

30 minute race effort after warmup. Cool down after. First time with this type of intensity this season. Ouch. Power for 30 minutes right in line with what I would expect vs 60 minute FTP effort last week. So FTP test VALIDATED.

Did I say ouch?

Just put in an easy-ish 44.2 miles in the saddle on a fresh build. Working the kinks out of the bike and myself before the ECCC season opener this weekend.

Am I ready? Pft, who knows.

The best I can figure is I wasn't keeping dem joints warm enough. Spending the last 2 winters in AZ makes you forget how ****ty the cold can make your knees feel.

Was able to go out for a quickish spin today after all, after putting on my knee warmers and winter tights. Methinks the cold doth lay at the root of my problems.

edit: derping hardcore.

What started it initially I think, was that unbeknownst to me, my seatpost slipped about 3/4 of a cm, after what I can only assume was due to one day when I did half a dozen sections of ****ty cobbles. A little after that day, I had an SFR day planned, and did it in the freezing cold rain. Slipped seatpost + cold, low cadence workout = tendon issues methinks. That its rarely warmer than 40 at the moment is making riding through it pretty difficult.

late base month for me.

Feb:
837 miles/47 hours 44 minutes/31,120 feet. Little elevation due to my recent descending skittishness, and a lot of trainer time.

I've got about 416 more miles of base left this year

EDIT: wait, no, 411

wanted to do 12 of 90 seconds at 135% FTP followed by 90 seconds off. Instead was only able to do 80 seconds on and had 100 seconds off. At least i was able to hit at least 139% FTP most of the time, with the last one coming in at 144%.

6x5x1 tomorrow, then taper for this weekend's race at Rutgers. Knowing what that race actually entails, i now wonder if i even want to do the point race (essentially a point race on the road...)

Kate, regarding cops. Saw one with his lights flashing parked on the top of Harlem hill. Later saw one parked by the rink. I thought: eff this, i'll go find a hill in Manhattan and do my repeats there as opposed to risking it in CP. As hammy alluded, i'm obviously not punk enough to run red lights when cops are around.

Then again, had i gotten out of lab earlier, i could have done everything in NJ.

Are you racing CRCA this year? The Power Points races are pretty brutal. You'd probably do well since you need to have a calculator for a brain to figure out wtf is going on in those races.
