It's our first one of the year and most of the fast guys are doing the same race. I'll be letting anyone who wants to duke it out on the pissing match hill climbs and sprints. Hopefully it'll be pretty low keyed. Tri geeks may push the pace though if they show.

Get a couple of IOM guys on TT bikes and see what they can do. Tri geeks are fast. No sprint, but they can cruise in the mid 20s for hours.

2 hour z2/z3 ride along PCH from Newport Coast Villas to Sunset Beach with wife. 56 minutes out and 1:11 back into the wind and slightly uphill by about 500 feet. It was sunny and 62 degrees.

2.5 hours, 2 of which were tempo. Legs felt a little stale after yesterdays non-riding, and some of the core work I've been doing lately, (and the little sleep I've been getting the last two weeks, and probably not enough food the last two days), but otherwise solid.

I'm pleased to say I made my first attempt at WRI's today! Build 1, Week 2. I cut them a little shorter than prescribed so I would have a chance at finishing them. 5 x 45" with 5min rest between sets. My speed (on the same stretch of road, same direction each time) dropped significantly from the first to the last. About 33mph max for the first, then only 27mph max on the last, RPE still through the roof. Rough, rough stuff

Yeah. That race was an excuse to get out and ride, now that it was cancelled, I'm expected to spend the day with the girlfriend. Doh.

And you now have a great opportunity to make it a memorable time/day by coming up with stuff to do that will exceed her expectations and wow her. Turn that Doh into a Doh-re-me-fa-so-la-ti-doh!! (sp?)

I just want to say I hate WRI's. Really. I usually crack at 50 seconds.

I hear you. It's tough to pedal through the 59th second.

That's the beauty of the WRI™ though. No matter how bad it gets, there's always an RPE 9 available (assuming you're doing intervals at 90% of maximum). If that's only 150W at 55 seconds, then so be it, but it still fits the protocol.

First training race today and I did really well overall. Stayed with the field the entire time, felt confident in the pack and around the one sharp corner we had. It was basically a crit with some hills. 1.2 mi course - really really fun.

Here's the GC link: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/72599569

Too bad my auto lap didn't work but it's there. I need to employ some strategy because there was one guy who kept solo breaking and I kept going after him. We were away from the field with 2 laps to go and I was pretty burnt - and we were caught. Not sure how I placed (I was in a large bunch, not dropped) but I don't really care because I learned a ton and had an absolute blast. Can't wait for next week. I also learned after the race there were some cat 3s and people in the 4s sandbagging so I felt a lot better about how I did.

I personally like taking some nice easy recovery ride, because it's nice to get 1 or 2 in a week where you aren't killing yourself and can just sit up and enjoy being out in the country riding your bike and get back to loving riding my bike. Keeps me happy
