Rode reasonably well today. The Sneaker Guy didn't have to wait for me. Not sure what happened over the last couple weeks. Part of it is the cooler temps - I was ruing the fact that I forgot the wind vest in the car, it was that cool. And it rained a bit on us. I think I'm better in cooler weather, that's all there is to it.

finished 2 hrs 15 min, around target with avg 137 bpm.

got way too excited at some point apparently, 201 bpm max lol!
hard to resist trying to ride cars off my wheel in traffic areas : )

first ride since insane ride on Saturday. Tempo/SST. For once, my HR was not actually jacked, and my resting HR before i went riding was also low.

Yesterday - my lunch workout made it into the failure thread but my evening workout made it in here. 20 mins at 105% followed by another 10 at 95%. 190 TSS on the day that included a total of 50 mins of FTP work.

Got started a bit late this morning + traffic sucked + I have to leave work early to take my daughter to a doctor appointment + I have a lot to get done at work today = No work out today

Especially tragic because it was an absolutely beautiful morning.

It's gotten to the point where I can understand that what the dudes in the UCI ranks do is not physically impossible. I am noticing however that my flat ground power is suffering a bit for it, but I also haven't stretched in like a month so I'm riding on the tops a lot.

I've somehow turned into a 75kg climber.

I'm supposed to be in Newark, DE next Sunday helping Spawn1 move into his dorm. The last projected path that I saw had Irene joining us for lunch. I wonder if I'll make it back to Gainesville for my Monday class.

Wonder if the outer bands' wind and rain will be enough to cancel Nocatee? Wouldn't mind the weekend off to hang out with my kid as he's here for three weeks before leaving to study abroad for the semester in Europe.

I wasn't showing any symptoms of major damage, loss of strength in my leg, dropping heel, etc. Things improved so we left it at that...There really isn't much you can do, it's either surgery or rehab and I much prefer the rehab option at this point.

The massage has helped...The goal now is to get the muscles to relax and then everything can get back in place and functioning like normal...
I can only say what my personal experience has been.

I injured a disc in jan last year. It was better by june/july. Lots of PT/rehab and stretching at home. If I didn't stretch for 2-3 days, I would hurt like hell. Stretching hurt too, but it felt much better for the rest of the day on. So I kept at it.

Reinjured in november last year and it's still not even close to 100%. I function fine with 2 small tabs of ibuprofen but still get some tingling and such. I gave up a lot of exercise (lifting/running) in order to let this heal and I've had less flare ups/etc as a result.

Keep up with the PT and be patient. Your body will heal. Surgery/steroid shots end up helping but only for the short term. The relapse rate is pretty high. A lot of stretches/PT focus on strengthening the core and moving you in ways such that you can create more 'space' for the ruptured disc. If you can move stuff around right, then it doesn't touch on a nerve and you're asymptomatic. There are a bajillion people walking around with bulging/herniated discs that don't know it because it's not bothering a nerve.

Good luck with your recovery!

I would love to do the Nocatee road race in rain and wind, but I will be on travel. Flat and windy suit me well being a "large boned" person.

And wet I don't mind at all. I'll start a solo training ride in the rain. I draw the line at lightning.

2 1/2 hours endurance / tempo pace. Legs were a little soggy today, so nothing hardcore.

Nice easy one tonight...Massage last night seems to have helped...Back is improving...Hopefully back to normal for Green Mountain...

ridethecliche...thanks for the words of support..

Been dealing with this for a number of years and the last couple have been pretty good. I stay on top of things with core work during the winter and some maintenance core work during the race season. I stretch, use the foam roller religiously and try to make sure I get a massage once a month.

The last two times I have had problems have coincided with fit changes, specifically saddle position...I can not have my saddle forward...

Last year I experimented with a slightly forward position. It felt good at first, but within a week or two the back started bothering me. I suffered for about 8 weeks before I clued in that maybe the new position was the root of the problem. I moved the saddle back and within a couple weeks everything cleared up. This time I swapped saddles before Catskills and again within a couple weeks problems surfaced. This time though, I wised up and have moved the saddle back...A whole whopping 1-2mm..

I know some will say 'yea right', but my back notices that change...and I actually feel more balanced...

The kicker this time was that I also re-aggravated the disk issue at the same time and I know that probably occurred because muscles were already tight...

You young guys out there...Look after your knees and your back! The more you take care of them now, the more fun you can have when you are older...

(clarification...I'm not the one putting out the 400.)
