Legs are shot from 4.5 hours of hills on Sunday. Gave blood after work. 45 min spin on the trainer last night watching cycling torrents. Maybe the same tonight. Get a few decent workouts in later this week, then should be recovered by Sunday for a Cat 3 and 45+ crit.
Chugging some Kefir now. A little pricey but hits the spot once in a while, especially on sale.

Track workouts this afternoon. Need to go out and change wheel bearings and the rear wheel on my pursuit bike. My motivation has been pretty up and down lately; having trouble getting back into any kind of solid routine which means I'm missing bits and pieces of what I know I should be doing. Focus and motivation have been a balloon, things like the poor 2k ride stick a pin in it and there air goes out big time.
What's annoying is that I'm still at the pointy end of the stick performance-wise. So there's a lot of internal push-pull when it comes to racing:
"Let's blow this off"
"Why? You can win this"

i have been on the TT podium all year but i really wish i could find a hill climb podium this year.
i've cut a bunch of weight, my power is great, and i'm mixin it up on strava rankings with some formidable regional climbers, but my one HC so far this year was a pretty miserable disappointment.
lotta circumstantial (real) excuses for it (sleep, fatigue, mechanical) but its still a bummer.
i'm hoping i have time to get down to central CO for the cottonwood HC TT in july... 19 miles of TT up a 5% grade to over 10,000 feet.
total madness.

First sort-of heat wave of the year and I'm moving in 5 days and haven't started packing yet. Probably not going to see a lot of time on the bike this week.
Making a kilometer blurry
Tried 4x5x5s yesterday (hill repeat intensity, but on a rolling loop). I set my sites at 360W. I couldn't do it. 345, 340, 295. No 4th one. Oh well, it's the first VO2Max workout of the cycle.

Still fighting a "bug". Spent lots of last night alternating between sweating so much that my hair (what little I still have) was soaking wet and getting under a down comforter fighting off the chill. But feeling a little better today than yesterday, so the trend is in the right direction.
It could be worse. I have a friend that has had to do a lot of travel to wilderness areas in the last year for his job and now he has Lyme's disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever at the same time. I hope that he has a lot of "sick days" to draw on.

also last night my gf and I took the first session of the level1 track class at the SD velodrome.
I can top out my cadence (130+) on the stock bikes they have after like 50m due to the low gearing, and the bb popped and clicked when I really put pressure on the pedals.
Even still I can't wait till next monday's class.

I guess now that I'm cat2 I should start training like one.
Not so much to beat the 2's, but to beat the 1's.. more than one guy I race against now does noting but ride bikes, apparently. And here I am with a 50-70+ hour/week job, lol.

Core workout this morning. CX bike this afternoon. Park loop that takes ~5:30 per lap. 4 laps w/ 5' rest in between (i.e. VO2max work), then I did 2 laps in a row (threshold-ish work). I'm a little whipped, but feeling good about the ride.

I had a meeting in Oakland this afternoon so I threw my bike in the back of the van and took a small detour on the way back to Sactown: Mt. Diablo. 2hrs total, 3642 vertical feet, 204 tss, 1.02 if, 1951kj.
1 hour power is good: 3.92 w/kg It's just my weight that's too high. If I could get down to my target weight and put out the same wattage, that would be 4.16. I would be very pleased with that.

I'm thinking of not doing the 40+ especially after last night's disaster of a race. I'll do the 3s.
My idea of fun

The nice part for us is that tomorrow is the last day of this oppressive heat and we'll be back to comfy temps for the weekend and the beginning of next week...
Speaking of tomorrow, I believe I have an appointment first thing in the AM

How the heck did you manage that? Assuming that the ride included a downhill with fairly low power output, sounds to me like you did a climb of 90 minutes or so at an AP well over FTP - unless there was extreme variability in power output during the climb (I've only ever driven up Diablo, well before my cycling days - don't recall how the grade varies).
Time to re-evaluate your FTP number?

Training status: wiped out. I feel like I've gotten slower over the past few weeks, not faster, and I'm going into the red zone early and often. I'm tempted to blame fatigue and overtraining from the increase in riding hours I've been doing, but given that I'm going from extremely little riding time to very low riding time, that seems insane. I have a crit tonight, and I can tell from my commute this morning that I'm going to be tired. I'm thinking about doing that, then shutting things down until Sunday so I can get some rest... or pushing through the crit and the two big rides I have planned for Saturday and Sunday, then resting up through next Wednesday or even Thursday. I'm leaning toward the latter due to timing - I have the state champ criterium and a road race the weekend after this one, so resting up the week before that to recover and then stretching the legs a bit before toeing the line seems like the most logical approach to this. Thoughts?
