Totally feel your pain. Compared to last winter I've had to up the rest AND food since I was burying myself constantly. Felt bloated and restless so I ended up doing ancillary weightlifting...still left me in a hole. It's taken awhile to get to the point where I can just be lazy and eat a bunch (started off with another bowl of cereal post-ride). My shirts fit a little bit tighter but I'm much happier with the strength gains than being on the verge of collapse.

Training Status: fried. Went to the group ride, had no legs, blown off the back. I don't know if it is the ze's yesterday or just accumulation of the past couple days. Either way, canceling hill repeats for tomorrow and doing about 2hrs tempo instead. Probably off friday and saturday, 2 crits sunday

okay - a question:
I've got a few short races (30 mile RRs, and then weekly crits) that are about +/-30 miles from my house.
I'm thinking about riding there with the team, racing, then riding a steady pace for about 2 hours home.
Would that be helpful for building tons of base, or is that just a stupid idea?

Did 3 hours today after work. It was wicked windy, but other than that, a beautiful day and a great ride.
-1 hour Z2 with 6 or 8 form sprints thrown in.
-5x5x5 V02 max hill repeats. Had a hard time pacing them, but ended up doing them between 115-120%. They hurt.
-Another hour of Z2 with a few more form sprints and a 1' effort thrown in there.
Ended up with these numbers.
Entire workout (187 watts):
Duration: 3:01:00 (3:04:01)
Work: 2020 kJ
TSS: 216.4 (intensity factor 0.854)
Norm Power: 252
VI: 1.35
Pw:HR: n/a
Pa:HR: n/a
Distance: 48.293 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 0 1148 187 watts
Cadence: 29 141 90 rpm
Speed: 0 50.3 16.0 mph
Pace 1:12 0:00 3:45 min/mi
Hub Torque: 0 480 93 lb-in
Crank Torque: 0 889 185 lb-in

best sprint in 2 years! I made it into "cat 4" territory in the eWang!!!
Min Max Avg
Power: 1213 1480 1399 watts
Cadence: 120 141 129 rpm
Speed: 30.9 34.4 32.7 mph
but much better sprint today. finally figuring it out. I remembered to use my arms today when sprinting. I'd been forgetting to do this... remember the arms.

Genetics have failed me
Rode home from work most of last week and everyday this week. 28 mile commute with stop light sprints and a few other accelerations thrown in. With over 330 outside miles for March I have so far the highest mileage count per month for the last 6 month.
I think I should be OK for now to at least hang on in a cat4 race until the Tuesday night worlds and the Wednesday nighters start so I can try some WR style fliers and see how I fare.

One of the nicest days weather-wise we've had here in Oregon and all I could muster was
1:03
366 kj
12.3 TSS
14.8 miles
Ave 97 watts
I almost just stayed on the couch when I got home from work, but the idea of not riding on such a nice day was too much.

Today I learned a painful lesson.
The sprint point is the yellow stop sign warning sign, not the no passing sign .25 miles up the road.
"Why are you guys not coming with me?"
"Why are you guys passing me"
"Why can I not see straight?"

thanks for the advice all - I think I'll get there in the team bus, race, then ride the bike home... here's to piling on the early season miles.
These races are a lot shorter than I wish they were... 60miles sounds a lot better for a RR than 40, but hopefully next season I'll be upgraded and get to do that.
Training this evening went well - the hills were good, the flats were fast - I need more 5" & 10" power... time to work on base, then work on speed.

Did 3x1' WRI's today...First WRI's of the season done in a time saver workout (and with a backpack). I am very very wussy. I thought I'd PB the second one because it "felt" like a PB...but...not even close (150w short of my PB). In a few more weeks and I'll be back.

Hour of power. 60 minutes at 98.6%. First 30 at 96%, last 30 minutes at 101%. Now I remember why I don't do that often.

3x20's last night with one of my teammates. We might have gone a bit hard on the first, especially given the beating I've been putting into my legs since last week..
#1 -- 102%
#2 -- 100%
#3 -- 95% <- the wheels fell off the truck

man i'm supposed to be in the middle of build 1 this week, but snow storm tuesday and sketchy roads yesterday meant i didnt get in anything other than the commute. (4 hours of z1-z3 over 2 days)
its funny that i had no problem convincing myself to go out in the muck and do endless basemiles all winter, but when i looked out last night after getting home, the thought of doing even an extra hour of intensity was a nonstarter. so after a hard monday i took two lazy days.
granted, the commute on tuesday was a herculean effort, just due to wind and conditions, just not the kind of herculean effort i really needed this week.
got a mountainous TT tonight (rumor is Tommy D will be coming up from bouder to make us all look bad), and if the weather holds, a fast circuit race on sunday, so all said and done it'll be a tough week, but i feel sorta lazy at this point.

Rested yesterday, and rain today... good thing I don't do this (e.g. train) for money!!
Will probably go for some sort of ride but I've been spoiled lately by sunshine.

Knees starting aching about 15 minutes in. I did 2 hours but tried to consciously keep the rpms up and the power below 300. Guess tomorrow is an easy day on the trainer.
