I've hit -40 and -34 in the past couple of weeks and both times I felt like death and could barely finish out my z2 rides. -86 would be like barely able to pedal for me.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I've been close to -50 and was dragging my ass, and have spent the last six weeks between -10 and -40 and have felt quite tired and grouchy when I dip below -30.. -86 TSB is just incomprehensible to me.

I'm just talking out my ass here, but if someone was coming off a break where their ctl dropped quite a bit, is it possible that they could hit a lower tsb and not feel as bad as someone who is at a high ctl with a low tsb?

I dont think so. After my Ironman in July I was recovering for a few weeks and than started with light training. At the end of October I started with longer rides for my base and pretty much doubled the miles too quickly. Went from about 150 miles per week to over 300 miles. I guess that is what happened. I will post the TSB graph later.

Edit: Also those 'base" miles were not exactly base miles as I would do some hard group rides as a part of my training. Something like: ride 20 miles to meet group...50 miles hammerfest ....20 miles home....twice per week plus some 3 hourish hillysh rides. Commute 17 miles each way would be my recovery ride ..... before you know it you ride 20+ (no so easy base miles) hours per week and your TSB is - 86

Attached are two WKO+ screen shots. One for May until now and the other September until today. My FTP is set at 300 and should probably be about 330. That being said, I dont think the TSB would be that much different.

1 hr on the trainer. Yay me.

Looked at my power zones vs my HR zones in Training Peaks. Unfortunately I have a disconnect in that my actual HR is about a zone higher than the power zone I'm in.

Anybody have a training strategy to target cardio fitness specifically? Ride more in the lower zones or push more at threshold?

Could be since last week during the Pendleton ride (and Thurlow going banana) I had peak 20 min NP 367 so maybe my threshold is even higher. In that case the graph may be "slightly" different. I will do some official testing in January, until then I wont even worry about it

Yeah, even with your estimate of 10% difference between your threshold and what's entered, the graph would be different. Regardless, that still a lot of work going on there man!

A 10% difference in threshold is going to give you significantly different TSS values, especially if you're doing a lot of group rides and near threshold efforts. The relationship between intensity factor (NP/FTP) and TSS is non-linear and I wouldn't be surprised if your TSB and CTL values are off by more than 10%. That's definitely a non-trivial amount and could have significant effects on your data down the road.

Either way it looks like you've been doing a lot of riding.

Long day and lots of holiday parties made me tired yesterday -- day off. This morning, a good one hour on the trainer.

GirlAnachronism -- how is the breathing through that UA head covering? They are having a promo for 2 day free shipping and I am thinking about it. My only pause is the breathing through the material. The one thing that is annoying me about outside riding is the face coverage.

4 hours with teammates today. A little bit of a hammerfest, super fun.

BG, I don't have it yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I try it out.

Same here, minus the hammerfest. A couple friendly sprints, but mostly just conversational. Very very fun with about 20 teammates.

3 hours through Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch in off-and-on drizzle. I almost got taken out by a dumb ass woman on a cell phone. She cut into the bike lane through a corner and came about a foot from nailing me from behind. It scared the crap out of me. Easily the closest I've come to getting hit in a couple of years.

I know you gotta stay warm, but doesn't that make it a real pain to spit, blow snot rockets, and drink water? Seems like it'd be hard to pull under your chin.

I'm not riding too hard this time of year so snot rockets are minimal

it does pull down pretty easily and tuck under my chin for a drink

Changed the threshold settings to 330 in WKO+ and the TSB dropped to 73.2. There is still some possibility that my FTP is in the 350 area so the TSB would be even lower. Maybe in 60s ....

2.5h yesterday and 3.5h today. I dont mind the rain but I hate cleaning the bike after those rainy rides
