i can hold a pretty low, aggressive position with the slimmer profile tail for shorter efforts up to like a half hour, but this is a 40K and i'm a little worried about holding that form for 55 minutes and wondering if its smarter to just use the fatter tail and be a little more comfortable.

It occurred to me during my ride a couple of nights ago that I was basically treating this season as though I had just taken up racing for the first time - I'm simply trying to increase my volume over the year and redevelop a base. So that's idea I'll keep in my head. Patience! I should come into next season with a solid base of fitness to build on. For now, I'm actually doing okay on relatively low volume (like I said, trying to gradually increase it) and having a lot of fun.
You and I are basically at the same place. I took a couple years off for life and burn out, and now I'm back. Treating this season like base miles and just having fun. I'm doing some intensity to try and bring my FTP and anearobic up, but not trying super hard. My power just isn't there yet. I'm looking towards next season.

For me, Wednesday was off the bike, yesterday was track racing. Did decent, legs aren't there but I managed to hide enough and race smart enough to podium a couple times.

Any tips for starting out? In my pre-racing days I used to run quite a bit, but I want to be careful not to overdo it.
run .. walk .. run .. walk ... and take it easy on the downhills (my knees didn't like them). I would attack the uphills to make up for it. I was slow and only in it for fitness, so felt no need to risk injury.

Considering I did stadiums yesterday, my legs feel surprisingly good today. I'm supposed to go mountain biking in an hour or so, is it time to roll the fatty?

I'm still tired from my 6x3min and 3x20's I did tues and weds even after an easy spin yesterday. Luckily another mostly recovery day with some openers on tap for today.

Honestly, tomorrow's workout scares the living shiz out of me (my coach is brutal!). 3x(10min 100% x 3min max x 3min recovery).

Feeling flu-like symptoms today: body aches and feeling totally exhausted. I was barely able to ride my bike home from work at 9 to 10 mph.

90 minutes of mountain biking bliss today. We hit a 1/4 mile stretch of trail that was 6" underwater, that was amusing since for awhile we weren't even sure if we were on the trail anymore. The only fattie that got rolled was me.

what the other guys said. start short and slow - it should feel like you aren't even really getting a workout the first few times, but your legs will be pretty beat up. i just started running again a few weeks ago. first four runs were 10, 10, 12, and 15 minutes, all easy and all at least two days apart. i've learned the hard way before. last year, i jumped right in at about 30 minutes and ended up with IT band syndrome for the entire summer (until i stopped running in august). that sucked. feeling ok so far this time.

Thanks.

Still feeling sore, but not as bad as yesterday.

I'm missing a nice race weekend (RR's both Saturday and Sunday) and I was starting to get a little form. Today's course suited me well. Bummer.

But the good thing I didn't prepay for racing this weekend.

Did the local hammer ride with topflighpro, and i got hammered somewhat, partially b/c i did a somewhat long ride yesterday.

People here really punch the short rolling hills, which are not my specialty, and I had to play the sand-bagging game in order to stay in contact.

On a 1:30 ish long power climb, i got gapped by 10 seconds and had to TT above threshold for a good few minutes to latch on. There were a few more of these in which i couldn't count on my anaerobic power and had to do TT to latch on each time. Oh, and it was windy as hell, which mean i really suffered trying to regain contact.

Good training overall, as i haven't done any race efforts in the 1-3 minute range for quite a while.

20km club TT....Couldn't get going for the 10km out...The slight cross-headwind and overall uphill trudge wouldn't allow me to get in my sweet spot...

Had a much easier time coming back keeping the the cadence high and power up...

Whatever, I had a good time and that's all that matters...

2 short hours. Felt strong. Legs are coming around. Also middle of 2 week weigh in this morning, sitting at 212.4 right now, down about 9 lbs in 3.5 weeks so far. Feeling good. Power is coming up or steady, weight is going down. Still slow as ****, but getting better.

2 1/2 hours solo this morning. I went hard enough that I'm pooped now. Ready for a chilled out day with the kids (if there is such a thing).

Looks like an awesome ride!

Yesterday - 4:45 z2/3 with 3x10 min threshold for 249 TSS. Last long/hard ride before nationals, lets hope everything goes as its supposed to.

Today - a nice 2 hrs z1 spin.
