Race Season Weigh-in
Is it healthy to lose weight during race season?
Im a light weight guy as it is (140lbs, and am 5'7") and weighed myself yesterday, and i am just over 130, and started to freak out.
I eat a lot, but can't keep the weight on.
Whats your thoughts.
Just be happy that i dont have to lug that extra 7lbs around with me on climbs? haha

If you're not losing strength, you should be okay.
I weighed 142 at 5'10 and was there for 4 years. Your body will settle eventually. Just make sure that you're eating enough.
How long did it take for you to drop this much weight? If it was in a few weeks, then it might mean that you really need to keep an eye on your diet.

I used to lose 6-8 lbs during football season, which was only 3-4 months. As long as the weight loss helps more than the strength loss hurts it shouldn't be an issue.

I had a moto ref tell me that last year. I'd been given numbers for the wrong race, not the M45+. The ref tried to eject me from the field and I argued with him. He radioed to reg, then came back a couple minutes later to tell me that I was indeed in the 45s... then he said "you're too old for bike racing".

Just as a point of reference and for what it's worth, look at the BMI (body mass index) chart for a 5'10 (67 inch) person. A BMI in the 'normal' catagory (19~25) calls for a weight range of 121~158 lbs. So you are in the middle range or normal at 130 lbs.
