What's with Antler Dude?

This guy's got at least some ability to run with those horns on his head and carrying a large flag; though he often gets too close.
I finally figured out that he wears a Montana jersey and elk antlers for Levi and a U Texas jersey and longhorns for Lance.
Today, I caught a quick glimpse of him with eagle wings and head on his helmet and yellow and red jersey that said bicycle and carrying a George Washigton flag.
Surely, a publicity hog like this has a website or is all over some of the social sites.
Is this guy sponsored by someone?

Also, it sure seems French TV doesn't want to show guys like him and Didi this year.

Technically it was a WA state flag, for Tyler Farrar who is from Wenatchee.

But yeah he makes us all look like idiots.

Oscar Freire and Julian Dean get shot by a pellet gun, yet the Antler Clown Attention Ho keeps running around unscathed. Sometimes there's no justice in the world.

Frankly I think anybody who stands on the side of a mountain waiting for a 5 second glance at a bike rider as he passes is an idiot. At least antler guy has the balls to wave his freak flag instead of keeping it in the closet.

To be fair, having seen my first tour stage the other day, I understand why people hang out. There is about a 2 hour parade of free goodies being thrown at you prior to the 30 seconds of racing you get to witness. Anyone who likes free stuff (and that is who waits around) gets more than their fair share.

With regards to antler dude? there are all sorts of crazies who dress for the festivities. They make it interesting (in my mind) as long as they are not a danger to the pack. Antler dude has proven a number of times that he can indeed be a danger with his ridiculous antics.

I vote antler dude down.

get informed. go to a big race in europe and enjoy the camaraderie and festive atmosphere for a few DAYS before that 5 second glance occurs then report back. not as idiotic as you think.

Nope I don't. Not my thing. I don't wait on lines, or have a desire to go backstage. I wouldn't cross the street to see someone famous, and I'd rather be hiking those mountains than standing on the side of the road.

Mattm - thanks for the correction on the WA flag. Guess I should have remembered that. I'm still curious about the jersey.
This dude is part of the spectacle that is large stage racing. Having stood in the snow for five hours to watch a minute or so of racing; I can relate.
True, it's not as important as the race or a spectator dieing or competitors getting shot.

I think he's the greatest thing to come out of the Tour of California.

Unlike DiDi, he'd a running non-sequitur.

He's better than the jerks we saw towards the top of the climb that Contador saw fit to take a swing at on both side of him.

What is the point? I like going to car races, but they do laps. Watching a stage race go by...I just can't get into the idea. About the only thing that looks interesting is camping out with the other crazies for a mountaintop finish.
Bike racing is one of the ideal sports to watch on tv though - between the motos that are in the race grabbing footage and the helicopter views -- great, involving stuff.

My grandpa on the right. He doesn't know much about racing, but he thought it was pretty funny. I think the guy is fine. Keeps people who aren't into racing entertained.
