Huge news from the Tour of Poland!

JJ Haedo was not kidnapped by aliens. He got third on today's stage.

OK, it doesn't SEEM like huge news. But remember, this is the Tour of Poland.

Racer Ex 08-04-09 10:01 AM

The Messiah will not be riding the Tour of Poland!

This may not seem like huge news but remember, this is the Tour of Poland.

I believe he is out impregnating more women...this is somehow going to help him when he runs for Governor of Texas on a family values platform..

Dubbayoo 08-04-09 10:45 AM

OMG! Don't say that again...he has people...everywhere...you could be in grave danger....

Racer Ex 08-04-09 10:59 AM

This just in:

"21-year-old Jacopo Guarnieri took his first professional win in the third stage of the Tour of Poland on Tuesday...Greipel received a consolation prize in the leader's yellow jersey"

The leaders jersey would usually be considered a bit more than a consolation prize, but remember, this is the Tour of Poland.

dmotoguy 08-04-09 11:17 AM

Greipel is going on a blitzkrieg.

Is a Polish leader's jersey a pair of bibs by chance?

mattm 08-04-09 02:00 PM

Wow didn't take long to devolve into Polish jokes...

Half of me wants to laugh along, the other half wants to throw vodka in your face. =]

Psimet2001 08-04-09 02:13 PM

98% of the individuals I work with are native Polish speaking and/or native Polish born. I have come to respect and appreciate the complex and proud working culture of the Polish people.

That said I am sick of having to get everything I post translated and conducting meetings and training with an interpreter.

.....maybe I'm just bitter because it used to be Spanish and I could understand a lot more Spanish than I can Polish.....

.....wait...there was something about bicycles in this thread wasn't there?

No, it is only the Tour of Poland.

If the other 2% of the people are blondes, you're in trouble (rim shot).

I have come to appreciate potato-based vodka.

I read some Polish history. I tried to get through Michner's "Poland".

From what I can gather the history of Poland goes something like this:

We got invaded.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we didn't.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we got invaded again.
Then we kicked the Soviets out.

My guess is they would have had more military success if they shortened their names and removed some of the vowels. By time you've alerted Private Woszjniaejkinitski of the grenade, it's already gone off.

This just in:

Frederik Veuchelen lost 48 seconds on today's stage, dropping him to 141st on GC.

This may not seem like huge news but remember, this is the Tour of Poland.

The wikipedia article on the Tour de Pologne is interesting...

Try reading Norman Davies "God's Playground" (at least the second volume) if you for some reason want more Polish history.

It is incredibly long but decent, as far as books focused on such subjects go. Slightly entertaining IMO, but I'm getting a doctorate in European history and my dissertation is going to be on Poland.

I'm trying to find pictures of the roads that the tour is going over so I know where to go riding next time I visit. My aunt is big into cycling organizations in the Warsaw area but I want to explore the mountains.

Why do you hate blacques? :)

txvintage 08-04-09 07:49 PM

Hey, my spousal unit is 2nd generation Polish American. Heck, our daughter even had a look see from from the Polish National Soccer team under the FIFA generation rules.

My in-laws rock.

That's great! But in true Polish fashion your daughter played softball right ;)

Cliff Notes?

I enjoy reading history. My hat is off to you because European history is incredibly well documented and the information volume is enormous. It's probably why lately when I book shop I end up with 600 pages on Peru instead of 6000 pages on Germany from 1300-1350.

While I've met more than one striking Polish gal (my primary metric for evaluating a country's value), the Tour of Poland is, by all accounts, a crappy race and probably explained by some slimy UCI official who's driving around in a new Mercedes with a pocket full of unmarked bills and two Polish/Ukrainian "models".

This just in: Astana's highest placed rider is 48th.

I know, but IT'S THE TOUR OF POLAND.

Racer Ex 08-06-09 04:27 PM

Ballan takes the leaders jersey.

Huh.

Shred of cred for the tour of Poland.

Psimet2001 08-06-09 09:06 PM

Heard a great joke at work today:

"Do you know what Poland's largest export is?.......*******s."

I was told that after beating my head aginst a wall for a couple of hours in a meeting with stubborn machinists.....

....I didn't stop laughing for at least 5 minutes.

Scummer 08-06-09 09:24 PM

I'm surprised the racers haven't had their bikes put on blocks and their wheels stolen.
