You can't.

Is there so law against just posting the text to the article?

patentcad 08-06-09 09:00 AM

Apparently there is no law against taking an outdated name (Radio Shack) and replacing it with an even lamer name with more negative connotations (The Shack).

It's another Marketing Brainstorm. Hey, remember The New Coke? How did that work out?

"This is an exciting time at RadioShack."

My diodes are all abuzz.

MDcatV 08-06-09 09:33 AM

I thought that article was about shaquille o'neil.

gerald_g 08-06-09 09:38 AM

It's been called "Source" or "The Source" or something like that for years here in Canada. Everyone I know still calls it "Radio Shack". I'm a former Radio Shack retail clerk !!!!!

I think they should still sell resistors and caps!

patentcad 08-06-09 10:09 AM

I remember my first electronic calculator. It had a metal tipped stylus and metal squares and a big LED readout. It was the size of Racer Ex's ego.

Metzinger 08-06-09 10:15 AM

Speaking of Leadville.
I hope none of LA's teammates try to thwart him in this event.
Because that would be too much to bear.

mmmdonuts 08-06-09 10:19 AM

I can't wait for T-Andy to sign up.

Didn't Shaquille O'Neil have "Shaq Attack" for something? The Shack....they should have let me in on that meeting because whoever came up with that one would have been sent out to fetch some coffee.

MDcatV 08-06-09 10:27 AM

is The Shack going to sign l'il penny to the squad?

They had the 'Shaw-Shaq connection".

El Diablo Rojo 08-06-09 10:59 AM

I predict that "The Shack" will be closing stores and stopping it's sponsorship by the end of 2010.

I'm not sure things are quite that bad @ Radio Shack.

But we'll find out won't we?

Nothing underscores the pathetic fiscal state of pro cycling more than the inability of even L. Armstrong to secure Nike or some other more solid US corporation as a title sponsor for a world class bike race team. Nothing I say.

ElJamoquio 08-06-09 11:31 AM

*Somebody* thinks it's worth $15 mil per year, or whatever the going rate is.

If no one did, pro cycling wouldn't disappear. Salaries would go down, sure. But it'd still be there.

Nike just doesn't think it's worth $XX million in advertising. Do they even still make bike clothes?

CyLowe97 08-06-09 11:40 AM

And their team cars could be Chryslers as big as a whale....*

* this is the second and last time I will make that reference with regard to Team The Shack and anyone mentioning the B-52's.

ericcox 08-06-09 11:44 AM

"the Shack" has been having some trouble for a few years now. Its new HQ was recently sold to a community college, though the Shack will continue to occupy part of the space on a lease-back deal. I think it's still turning a profit, but sales have been below expectations. I really don't know how this sponsorship helps them. I guess the Lance factor alone, and they are a TX company...

When we saw the report on the local news, my wife's reaction was to start singing "Love Shack."

My guess is that LA doesn't want to put all of his eggs in one basket. He already gets Nike money. Much better for him to "diversify".

Neither does hardly any other major corporation besides Garmin, Columbia or Radio Shack. That's not a lot of marketing dough for large companies. Eli Manning's new contract with the Giant costs one team more than that each year for one player.

Like I said, pathetic.

Nike also doesn't want the risk of "(insert rider's name here) of Team Nike tested positive for (PED of the week)"

The Shack probably doesn't care, since most of it's employees are on PEDs already (Red Bulls, Dominoes and Twinkies).
