Green Mountain Stage Race

Well, GMSR is just a week away? Who is in? I did a preview of the course last weekend and it made me question why I signed up for the race. Should be fun times!

I'm in!!! So excited...the RR stage is beautiful (and challenging). 75 miles for the 4/5 category?? sheesh...should be a great time (or a **** show)...

Either way, I'm stoked. What CAT are you racing??

That's impressive considering the amount of climbing in this race...but I've seen your power numbers...SICK!! How tall are you??

I'm 6'5" and about 180-185...

I'm a 4, but this is my first year racing so I'm riding the 4/5 race. I went to high school in Waitsfield, VT (where the race is centered) so it'll be fun to race on home turf...

New tech manual typically comes out the week of the race. They wait till the last second really.

I too am a cat4, I too am in my first year of racing, and I too will be doing the 4/5 field mostly because I got suckered into doing it by teammates. I guess it beats doing the Cat4 field by myself. I am not a tall guy but have some weight, 5'9 coming in at 155lbs.

Only acceptable if you are in a costume. And if you could also be kind enough to toss me a tow rope that would be great too.

i am not signed up, and leaning towards a "no".

Ive been in "triathlete" mode all year, so not sure i could handle the surges :0

Ehhhhhh.. I dunno. Half an important Half iron distance event on the 13th, too.

i am going to miss out on it though. Really love waitsfield, American Flatbread and easy street cafe!!!!

should i reconsider!?!

If it's just an "event" and not race, then screw it. Heck, even if it's a race then blow it off. It's a 75 mile road race - if that's not training, I don't know what is.

duh. cycling > tri and of all the races, GMSR is probably the biggest any Cat 4/5 can do. to hell with tri.

You weigh 195 but i bet you put down like 390 watts for 20 minutes?

still on the fence here.........

FWIW, I am cat3, and the event is a race, Half Ironman that I could do well at. So I don't know how much I want to slaughter myself 7 days before it. But you know I am getting antsy. Feeling good right now. I could convince myself to do essentially nothing all week this week, do GMRS, skip the Crit on Monday, and then do nothing all week the following week and go for the half iron.

Arggggghhhhhhhh.

so you're on form, and considering not doing a stage race that you can otherwise do because you want to see where you stack up in your age group at some multi sport event a week later? huh? whaaa? did I stumble into the slow twitch forum somehow?

I think I can podium (overall) in this Half iron, but whatever.

I am doing another half iron 3 weeks later, so there is always time for that. Otherwise the season is ending real quickly. So I'll be sitting here with my 300 watt FTP and nothing to do but kick tires.

But the "form" of doing essentially tempo/endurance for 4.5 hours is a lot different than going endurance for 3 hours with random 600 watt surges.

Oh yeah, I've come in literally DFL in the 3 time trials I've done this year. that is all I've seen in terms of bike racing.

GMSR here i come**********

that doesnt seem to bode well for a podium result in a half IM then does it? (legit ?, not intended to be dickish)

also, glass half full perspective: maybe the stress to your system from the GMSR will be sufficient overload that with proper recovery will result in a "supercompensation" effect and you'll be that much more ready for the half IM.

The TTs I've done were all short. 7-14 miles. Also the last one was a full month ago. A lot happens in a month when you are getting into the groove.

The Half iron bike is 55 miles. For the bike, my plan is to ride at ~215 watts in a decent aero position for 2.5 hours @ 22mph, then run a 7:20 pace for 13.1 miles. I am not going against Andy Potts or anything here. In the scheme of times at a national event, it puts me in the "OK but nothing special" category Anyway.

A week is not too bad of a recovery. especially if I get lots of beet juice and spinach and sleep.
