Tour of Catskills

anyone up for this?

Still on the fence (as usual). No reason not to do it, other than that I am tired/lazy and I have work Friday/Saturday/Sunday so it'd be a lot of driving.

I was going to do this...I have two teammates going.

My test case was the past weekend, where I did fairly well on saturday at Montrose PA, but then horribly at Bear Mtn, so I am thinking that my body cannot handle multiple race days right now.

I may either call it a season or just do Smethport, but Catskills is looking very unlikely.

it sucks because its such a cool race, but its just not getting a lot of draw i am guessing due to the time of the year. i don't want to see it go away because of that.

they moved the reg deadline back to Wed. technically I am sure i could figure out how to make it work, but I'd have to leave immediately after each stage to go home for work. could be interesting.

I will be there in the Cat 3's, its a great race, probably my favorite of the season. I get the sense that there are quite a few riders sitting on the fence waiting for more to register..... which of course stops others from registering who are thinking the same way!!

actually I think they made a mistake by requiring all riders to do all three days this year.

unless of course they wanted to have a small turnout.

I was going to be in for this, but burnout and work schedule changes in the last few weeks have ruined all sense of form.

Maybe next year.

Good luck to all those who are headed over!

A friend is going to be there.

don't get the timing of this at all - the races look cool but its only two weeks after GMSR and the seasons almost done, move it up to round F-burg (say when Owasco keeps missing it) and then this would rock.

In july, yes. September... can't make that distance from DC for another stage race. I would love to do it, absolutely love it.

If you did GMSR 2 weeks ago, you'd be perfectly recovered for tour of catskills And look, it is beautiful outside. Perfect weather.

Is it a school issue for people with children? Burn out?

I've got another day to figure out how dumb it will be to sign up even though I shouldn't do it.

Not really a school/kids issue for me, just a I traveled for 2 stage races and 4 other "away" races from the middle of July through the end of August. Driving 7-8 hrs for the Catskills in September is a hard sell on the finances.

If I'm still in the MABRA area next year though, I might slide the end of June into July stuff off the schedule and do August/September just to get GMSR and Catskills. Ideally, I'd do Tour of Lancaster Cty, Millersburg, GMSR and Catskills. But I'd have to trim down the June/July stuff seriously.

If you can't take the second Friday after labor day off from work don't go to Europe.

I'll be watching from the side with a bunch of family. One eye on the road, the other on College Football. If you are riding, describe your kit and we'll make sure we cheer extra loud for you!!

at this point in the season recovering from GMSR isn't gonna happen in 2 weeks (at least not well) more importantly though is that nearly everyone that races there has to pay for lodging, and since the Catskills are well west of bum****, there's more money that most don't have, add in the start of school...bad timing that's all

Good luck to those that race.
I love that race though only did it once.
Cool Story:
First, and only, time I did this race was some time ago. I was in the Vets group and we were climbing this long, tough climb. We were probably 3/4 of the way up, on our right was a very deep valley with another mountain on the other side. Suddenly 2 freakin' fighter jets came through...they were flying "nape of the earth?" real low and were actually below us a bit. We were a bit above them and the person sitting behind the pilot looked up and to his right like he was looking right at us...his face was covered by the helmet shield so no idea if he was actually looking at us but it looked like it...While it felt like it lasted 30 seconds it probably lasted a second or two. The jets were gone and for the next minute or so the race was neutralized because nobody did anything but ride and talk about how cool it was. That moment too was over quickly and we were back to killing ourselves.
I also found a pair of Oakley glasses that someone dropped. I had been dropped by the main group of a dozen or so and was chasing solo when I saw them in the road...Freakin' "A" I stopped for them...they looked brand new...put them in my jersey pocket and rode in. Stopped at the registration desk several times but no one said they lost their glasses so I got a decent finish in that stage, saw an amazing sight and got a new pair of glasses that were worth more than the winner of the stage got hehehe. A great race and memories.

Good luck and have a great time.

I AM out. Can't swing it. Going to race locally on Sunday. Last RR of the year for NJ - Tour of Fair Haven circuit race. P123 race. (probably with no P12s anyway). Good luck and have fun.

I'd be there if they didn't require the Friday afternoon TT. The TT seems totally pointless, and it makes getting out to the Catskills on time that much more difficult.

I know stage races like to have at least 3 stages, but they should make this one different and just run two gnarly road races back to back.

I think a lot of us feel that way. It is too bad. Maybe they will change it next year. I could have, would have gone to BOTH weekend day races, but since I can't get out of work at noon to drive 2.5 hours to race 5 minutes, I can't do any of it.
