I've learned that you need to be masochistic to love this sport. Being able to punish your body beyond expectations.

I learned that I was a better junior than I am a senior...and of course that I am, and forever will be, too fat for this sport.

I learned that a new bike won't make you faster. But it's still fun to have a new bike.

All the above. First year racing, so I've picked up a lot.

I'll ad that you've got to dig deep and do whatever needs to be done for the team. And that this will be repaid if you're racing with the right guys.

I started racing when I was 14, and I'm still learning things.

Could just be 'cause I'm a bit thick

I learned...

1) Not to be that guy
2) Drinking alcohol isn't a good substitute for riding base miles

I learned that a 10kg bike will do just fine in a 4/5 race.. depending on the engine of course.

Also saw first hand how important it was to stay up front in crits, I heard a lot of crashes last season (my first).

Oh and I learned that I'm just an average climber, if that - racing is some humbling yet fun stuff.

Learned that there is a time to tough it out, you may feel like crap now but if you stick it out who knows.

Learned that everything doesn't have to be perfect for you to win. That the more you finish 10th the more you win.

Learned that there is more to life than racing a bike (a lot more). And that sometimes caring a little less = racing a little better.

And most importantly. It doesn't get any easier, just faster.

I learned that by myself I'm not too impressive, but when friends help out, I can look like a superstar.
