Wow, New Masters 50-54 Hour World Record.

This should probably go in "Track" but the guy is a great road racer as well and thought it would get more play in here. Mods, feel free to move it needed.

Way to go Keith! I see Keith at most of the races I go to in SoCal. The guy is a stud and faster than most racers in their prime!!! BTW, over 28miles in one hour!!!!!!!!!!!!

Giant Inside Sales Rep Keith Ketterer Sets New Masters World Hour Record
10/12/09 - The day after setting a new Masters World Hour Record at the Home Depot Center velodrome in Carson, CA, Giant Bicycle Inside Sales Representative Keith Ketterer said he was, “a little sore, but totally psychedand so glad it’s done!”

Ketterer set a new World Hour Record in the 50-54 age group, riding 45.386 kilometers – that’s 28.2015 miles – in one hour. The old record was 44.890 kilometers, or 27.8933 miles.

The new record involved rocketing more than 180 laps around the velodrome at a pace that most professional bike riders – including those much younger than the 53-year-old Ketterer – would find impossible. “All my training leading up to the attempt was set for 20 seconds a lap for 180 laps,” Ketterer said. “On a 250-meter track that would be 45k which would break the record by just 100 meters. My strategy was to ride the first 120 laps at 20 seconds per lap - which is called a "schedule" – and then slowly pick up the pace in the last 60 laps to put distance into the record.
Whole story here. http://www.socalcycling.com/

Hi,

Keith (KK) is one of the guys that makes me wonder even more why I bother with this sport.

Prior to setting the record he had been frequenting Roger Young's training sessions at the Home Depot Center velodrome as part of his preparation -- the same sessions that I try to frequent. He looked great on the track.

I also saw him at the SoCal / Nevada Masters District Track Championships. He went right after me in the 50-54 2K TT. He was just a little faster than me.

He is a very nice guy and I've seen some of the hard work that he put into preparing for the record. Well deserved IMHO.

BTW, KK is really a road racer, not a trackie, so I think that this thread should stay here.

He started on mountain bikes at Bloomer Park, but I don't think he ever rode on the velodrome there.

So are both of you saying that this thread should go to the Mountain Biking forum?
