Anyone seen Forks Over Knives? My MIL is all about it, making everyone watch it, upset if they won't, etc. From my bit of reading the science isn't great and some of the things they claim just aren't backed up by the studies they cite (China study mostly) and they use a lot of animal studies (not exactly analogous).
Movie wasn't bad, and I don't think anyone argues that tons of red meat is healthy, but I'm not sure I can get on board with the completely vegan for health reasons. You do you for ethical, environmental, whatever reasons though. I like my fish and chicken and occasional steak though.
If she was less sanctimonious I wouldn't care. Don't get me started on gluten. Whatever the flavor of the month is, she's on board.

I really like Dr. Michael Greger's website NutritionFacts.org. He posts videos and articles on all sorts of health/nutrition related topics that are all based on published scientific studies. Definitely worth checking out.

Went nuts on an oreo and fake oreo (Trader Joe Joe's) binge over the past week. Thin oreos, mega oreos, regular oreos, vanilla, chocolate, etc. Paying for it big time in the weight dept and feeling like a slob dept.
I will say ... the Trader Joe Joe's were really good.

I made a few hot dogs at home, but at least they were nice ones, and I fried up some onions and garlic for them. I doused them with salt, pepper, cayenne, and a lil brown sugar, delicious.

So we are somewhat foodies.
Typical breakfast:
Untitled by Alex Franks, on Flickr
Steel cut oats made with half water half almond coconut milk. Coconut flakes, always blueberries, and usually strawberries.
Typical lunch:

Kale salad with (all raw) peppers, carrots, green beans, tomatoes (sometimes dried as well), blueberries, strawberries, avocado, chia seeds, pumpkin and/or sunflower seeds, garlic powder, rice vinegar. I like roasted edamame on mine.
Our favorite dinner:
Untitled by Alex Franks, on Flickr
Rice noodles, tofu, broccoli, zucchini, oyster mushrooms, yellow pepper, peanut sauce that has diced raw ginger, garlic, onion, curry powder, almond coconut milk, soy sauce, lime juice, and of course peanut butter.
We work hard in the kitchen as well as on the bike!

Trying a new cooking idea tonight:
Chicken leg quarters slow cooked at 275 F with shallots, garlic, thyme, and lots of olive oil.
I plan on saving some of the chicken infused olive oil to cook some fingerling potatoes as well as for crisping the chicken skin later.
Escarole as the bitter green to complement the fatty chicken and potatoes is the plan. I will use some of the chicken infused oil for the escarole dressing.
But there should be lots of extra "chicken/shallot/garlic/thyme"-infused olive oil left over even with all of those other uses, so that is a conundrum. Save it for something else? But what do I cook with it?

I think going on 3 years next month. I was pretty decent cook before but now the creativity levels have gone way up. It helps that my wife does it too. I've seen lots of couples where one is vegan and the other just makes fun of it, doesn't offer help in the kitchen etc. Never works out well.
