"You put WHAT in my Gatorade?"

Sometimes I think I'm too much of a health nut, but... this is ridiculous.

https://cyboc.blogspot.com/2006/04/yo...-gatorade.html

so I just looked on the label of my Gatorade powder container... partially hydrogenated coconut oil. what the F*CK? it's supposed to be SUGAR. I'm done with you

There is a lot of crap in Gatorade. I don't understand why they would put oil in it either. Don't forget the Red #5 or whatever. Right now I am on the HEED, which is pretty much just maltodextrin which is certainly derived from corn in a laboratory, so not sure it is much better than HFCS.

Make your own. Water, lemon juice, "lite" salt for potassium & sodium, & sugar of your choice.

BTW, I don't see oil in the powdered Gatorade.

1 teaspoon of dextrose per every 2 ounces of water
1/4 teaspoon of sodium(table salt) and about 1/16 teaspoon of potassium chloride

Use the others stuff after a hard training ride.

why do you have a problem with glucose anyway?

if you ingest sucrose then your body has to convert it into glucose so why not save yourself a step?

Could be. This is the red "Fruit Punch" flavor. Stupid store was out of Powerade powder (blue matches the kit better )

I was thinking about something similar to this today.

Some riders like to drink Coke after a bonk or during a very hard ride. However, in the U.S. Coke is made from a ton of corn syrup, whereas in other countries like Mexico actual sugar is used.

Is there a big difference between sugar carbs and starch carbs in terms of their effectiveness during exercise or with recovery?

Yes, so the lemon-lime Gatorade does not have as many foul additives. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I just buy Gatorade because I can get it 3 pounds at a time for ~$8. I will continue to look for better options. Maybe 1/2 Gatorade and 1/2 something else to limit the things I really don't want.

Also waterrockets, what store do you get Powerade from? Is it reasonably priced for large quantities?

I usually just buy the smaller cans of PowerAde. My wife bought me the big 5-gallon Gatorade can from Costco (I think) when we couldn't find PowerAde, and it's lasted me three months (for my limited volume). Not sure how much it cost, but I'm on my last small-can refill from it (I keep a small can at work for the lunch rides).
