Rudy Project Wingspan

I received my new Rudy Wingspan helmet yesterday. Unfortunately it's a one size(54-59cm) and I have a huge noggin, so it doesn't work for me. But a quick "summary" if anyone is looking at one....when they finally start shipping again.

First note out of the box is this thing is LIGHT compared to my Giro Advantage II. The RP is 352g on my scale with tags. Out of the box, it comes with the helmet, storage bag, underside tail cover and front vent covers. One for ventilation, marketed for Tri's and one solid one, marketed for TT's. The "exhaust vents" in the rear of the helmet are huge. I think there will be no problem with ventilation on this helmet.

The next thing I noted was the finish. My Advantage is plasticy and feels kinda cheap. IMO, this is one of the better made helmets. It's got a rubbery flat coating, which I like the look of, but I guess that's just preference. The retention system is the same as my last couple of RP helmets and is the RSR 7 Disc. One handed adjustment with a turn of a dial. I've had no problems out of this in the past and assume it will function as intended.

The tail is much shorter than most helmets on the market, which is allegedly intended to cover both back profiles. The included literature goes into a little more marketing detail on this. Basically Cobb believes the longer tails work better in zero yaw as the shorter tails perform better in real world.

If this helmet fit, I would definitely keep it. It seems very well made and if you believe the hype, is a very fast helmet. I will definitely purchase one again if they decide to make one to fit the Statue of Liberty.
