Ebay Special

So I'm trying to build a super high end race bike for under 2500 bucks. Right now, I'm at just over 2000 with zipp 808's, the frame/fork, and an Ultegra SL group set. With the remaining 500 bucks, I need to buy a seat, post, stem, handlebars, and Tubular tires. Its going to be tight, but I think I'll make it.

Here are the pics so far.

I think he's buying parts from eBay and building his bike, the pictures representing the purchases to date.

I did roughly the same thing with an R3-SL and 404's. Use the Ritchey WCS stuff off of eBay and you're golden.

I've had a bunch of Thomson seatposts, and i do like them. I will be going with them for my post, however, stems are pretty much stems. There's no need to spend a ton of money on a stem.

The frame and wheels are used, but everything else is new.

For pedals, I picked up a pair of Keo Sprints from PBK for about 80 bucks a few months ago when they were having a sale.

-Fatboy, The frame is a 2007 System six Team Edition (Barlow world)

For a seat post, I suggest the zero- setback carbon post from bike nashbar.

You can't go wrong with it.. I have the same one on all three of my bikes. =)

I didn't know if that was a Six or Super Six. It's nice either way.

I do think it's better to get an aluminum stem as opposed to carbon. If the threads pull out of the stem, you are screwed in a big way and point loads are what carbon is least suited to. Aluminum is much less fussy and the weight is the same. Because a stem is so important, I don't buy them used. FWIW, Nuevation has a good variety of stems at very low prices. They aren't even too logo'd out.

Ritchey WCS aluminum for post, stem and bars. Vittoria Corsa CX from PBK.com for tires.

hmm, I might end up using that. On my current race rig, I have a thomson masterpiece in a 27.2. Anyone ever use one of these. Do they creak at all?

i used a thomson elite (silver) with a shim in a carbon frame, and it worked like a charm - looked ghetto, but if you use a black one, nobody will notice.
