Actually I'm excited to be rid of the noob stigma. Had this email tonight:

I'm a 4, and I was doing well, but I was still quite the noob.
Don't let it get to your head, and yes attack.
(Congrats now kick some ass!)

Thanks! I know I'm still a noob but the whole "being a 5" stigma is now gone

A 4 is a 5 that survived 10 starts without quitting.
That is something to be proud of because most quit well before 10 starts.

Why what happens? I have yet to start my first start out of the ten. Do they just get discouraged? Or is it so horrible that they fear for their lives and quit so their children will have a father?

feels good man.
only bummer for me was going from the tangible knock 10 races down goal to the more pie in the sky "get those points" 4 to 3 action.

Most people can't stand being dropped a few times & still keep paying maybe just to hang on. That's what I had to do. I am not a natural at this sport. It takes a special kind of masochist to keep coming back to amateur bike racing. You've got to love the small victories.
