Just registered for my first bike race!

It's in two weeks and I thought I'd share my excitement. It's sooner than I was expecting to do my first race, but you've got to start somewhere.

Good luck. Read the sticky and don't get discouraged. It is not at easy sport, and more likely than not your first race will be a humbling experience. But don't let it get you down, just train harder for the next race and come back swinging. Keep us posted on your progress.

Or DNF like I did on my first.

Mind you it was a snow covered 'cross race.

Instead of starting a new thread on the same subject I thought I would hijack this one.

I too just registered for my first race(s). It is a series of races (Time Trial followed by 4 road races). Since I am 37 I could register in the Cat5 or 35+B category. After consulting with some respected cyclists in the area I decided to enter the 35+B. Once I registered I noticed it included CATs 3,4,and the lowly 5's like myself! Yikes! Turns out, most of the riders in this category all seem to be CAT3's! I'm perfectly aware I'm in for some serious humble pie. I've already decided that if...I mean WHEN I get dropped I will not quit. It also doesn't really help that I am one of only 3 unattached racers in the field of 40 so far. Hopefully I can at least win the gratuitous 'most improved' title by the end of the last series.

I'm already excited and nervous. Time trial is on Saturday followed by the first road race (40 miles) on Sunday. Good luck to me...I'll need it.
