Hard day followed by feeling even stronger the next day?

I did 45 minutes at threshold (based on HR) yesterday - I was pretty tired afterwards for the rest of the day. Today got up to do a low intensity ride and ended up in a mile plus patch of high intensity riding with some guy on a tri bike. I felt awesome and was riding much faster than I did yesterday but my HR was pretty stable.

Now I understand that hammering for 1 mile is not the same as 15 or 16, but has anyone ever experience feeling stronger the day after a major effort? This isn't the first time this has happened either - after some time trials I've had wonder days on what should have been the lightest of recovery rides.

Also, this was a big mileage week for me (170), usually I'm in the 70-80 range, so I should have been absolutely beat.

Yup. Day 2 is usually great for me. Google "openers".

I would say yes, but after my performance today? Well, lets hope I get stronger day 3.
