Is it just me or does the Giro seem unreasonably dangerous? Vandevelde is out with a broken collarbone this year (huge bummer) and last year he had that horrific crash (just to cite one example). What is so different about the Giro vs. the Tour or the Vuelta that makes crashing so common? Poor stage planning, higher intensity, crazy fans/roads??

I love the excitement but it's really sad seeing some of these guys crash out...
