Maybe he's a feminist that finds podium ladies demeaning and disrespectful to women.

More like "Football, think of Football..." He's wearing spandex and two hot Italian chicks are all over him...no reason for an embarrassing podium moment

is there a reason why this "tradition" still flourishes in Europe, long the bastion of of progressivism? i mean i could understand the case for italy, as sexism pervades and being a politician's mistress is is apparently the new "it" jobs for young italian women, but why make it so crass?

It's horrible the way these women are forced into this...they are made to dress in smart looking somewhat conservative business attire then they hand a guy some flowers and give him a traditional Euro hello kiss. It's shocking!!

nah, the hello/goodbye kisses are fine, and with my european/carribean female friends, that's what i do, too. thing is, you don't see male models at the presentation for things like the Giro Donne.

that said, i apologize for stirring up a hornet's nest.

yep. spent a week in/around there. the descents suck: rough roads, tight turns, traffic...
