HED wheel note/CDR problem
 

CDR posted over "there" about some considerations when going to a wider HED rim, mentioning wet cornering.

FWIW I found that the HED rims work much better with a non herringbone type tread (Pro 3's, that sort of tire) than with the classic Vittoria type tread. My take is that the herringbone creates a ridge that, on a normal width rim, you run to the edge of. On the HED you run off.

I found the Vittorias a bit "skatey" at the edge of traction while the Pro3's hung in there much better.

I think that a more triangulated shape might work really well on this rim (Specialized Mondo Pro, that sort of tire), but haven't had a chance to test it out.

Interesting. I was pretty scared on Saturday. Used Bontrager Race X Lite ACs (I think I got the various bits of the name right).

I may put some Krylions on. And train a bit more in the rain. Harlem Crit coming up, and thundershowers in the forecast. Yay.

Completely off topic, but watch those ACs carefully. Mine fell apart after less than two weeks. Sidewalls disintegrated.

I assume the HEDs you are talking about are clinchers?

Yes.

And on the Bonty tires: I run the Xlite tubulars on my TT bike and they are really skatey, part of the issue I found was the label actually rolls onto the contact patch of the tire. Not sure if this is the case with the clinchers or not but I wire brushed the label off and found improvement. I could see this being even worse on the HED rim. Seems like they are also a harder compound then some of the other tires.

i've been running the HED C2 rim for 2 seasons now with Schwalbe ultremos (fully smooth tread) and absolutely love the cornering and grip offered by the set up. I wont go back to a regular rim if I dont have to.

And if it matters: 100-110 psi @ 190-200lbs rider weight.
