I have the wonderful distinction of being the first DNF of the entire friggin race.
Cat 3. Stage 1.
Felw really good. stayed in the top 20 on the circuit. With three laps to go, in a fast 200m before the right hand turn up the hill I get bumped hard on my left by a guy avoiding the cones and go down. It happened so quick I'm really not sure what caused it.
Helmet smashed and my head is being duck taped to a streacher board. I'm fine. road rash is not all that bad, but precautions are precautions and the chief ref said I can't start stage 2 because I didn't finish stage 1.
Rules are rules.
But damn that really sucks. Dr's cleared me to race. I feel ok to race. I traveled 900 miles to do this race. I prepared since March to do this race. I paid a lot of $$$ to do this race and the rules are what they are...out after 20 miles and 45 min.
I helped in the feed zone for the road race and am going to watch the TT in a few min.
Good weekend. Just sucks.

Grumpy must have been more compelling than me. I flatted at the start of lap 2 of the RR. Got a good wheel change and caught another guy that had a mechanical. Worked OK together but he dropped out at the feed zone starting lap 3. I did 3 more laps without seeing another person from my field and was listed as DNF. Left the official at the number given a message and tried back a few times but got no response and was not given a start time for the TT. Guess I should have gone in person this morning, but it's a long drive to just be turned away.

Glad you are ok. I saw that happen just to my left and then saw the board the next lap or so by. After that there were a number of more bad crashes requiring medical assistance. I missed two by inches; very nervous all around.

Tough break slim, I heard stage 1 cat3 race was a sketch fest.
My buddy is sitting just off the podium in the 40+ and my other friend was really high in the GC after day 1 but hit the deck pretty good yesterday. It sucks cause he was really hoping for a good result and he has the legs for it. Hoping to make the leap next season to domestic pro.

The up side is that when I called my wife to tell her I crashed I was able to divert her attention to how much WORSE it is that I can't start the next stage. Near perfect diversion from the fact that I could have been a vegetable.
On another note, given my "situation" I think that stage race rules should be augmented for lower cat racers. It is not sensible that a rider can be pulled from a stage by the officials and still be allowed to start the following day, but someone who is crashed out and medically able to race be prevented from starting--and ends their weekend early. Esp given how far some people have traveled. I'm actually quite upset about that.

Yea Dave is a great guy and has given me a ton of advice so far this season. I'm glad he's having a good weekend so far, he's worked hard for this race.

A teammate finished 7th in GC for the 2's.
He used to be a teammate of kensuf, but he joined the cool kids last year when we started a new team. (Ken, I kid!)
I haven't seen the P/1 results as of yet. I "know/ride with/wave to" at least three of them, but when I looked two days ago none of them were doing particularly well.
