Pawling Road Race
My new favorite race. Close to home, great climbing, no stupid 55mph death defying decents. Good marshaling, low traffic. I was in 3/4, and this was my first race of the summer (excluding Bear Spring where I got dropped on the first climb) with pretty crappy training but I was able to hang in there until lap 3/3 where I got dropped to the 2nd chase group of 7 and then got dropped on the last climb when my front derailleur snapped in half (carbon!). I realized half way through the race I also had not added SALT!!!!!! to my home brew energy drinks - this is after blowing through like 80+ oz of water in 2 hours. Crazy hot. I think with proper hydration and not a broken bike I could have hung with the lead group. Came in probably around 28th out of 39 finishers, but pretty sure we started with 60 guys. Good times.
PS They gave out pint glasses at packet pickup!

I made the long drive from Boston, nothing but crits and group rides that weekend. I dropped into 35+ Cat 4, half of the 68 starters were dropped after the first lap. I didn't know much about the course, so I rode defensively for most of the race...covering the moves.
I think I went into the race slightly fatigued and it showed going up the second part of the final climb on the 2nd Lap. Once I looked up and saw the climb, it was lights out. At this point we were only about 25 riders...I rolled in for 23rd of 68. Of course, the fact that I had to chase coming down backside of the first climb didn't help.
Definitely a tough race, perhaps I'll do it again next year though I don't think the course suites me.

I read about the pint glasses in one or two 2010 race reports and was disappointed there were none this year.
