Would my cyclocross bike be not allowed to race?

I've pretty much fully converted it into a road bike, except for the brakes... which I can't convert. So would I be barred from racing it without conventional road brakes?

I thought I read somewhere that it would be a safety issue because CX brakes don't respond as quickly as regular road brakes.

Because that's what brakes are for

But seriously, I don't think I have heard anything about them not allowing it.

There was a guy riding a hybrid commuted bike with flat handle bars in the last crit I did. We all wished he wouldn't have. He got dropped on the first lap and lapped on the second and then pulled. But the official had no problem letting him start.

I don't think anyone would have been concerned with a cross bike being in the race. I say go for it.

Just race the damn bike.

I raced a CX bike for my first season of road. Too poor to afford anything nicer. Hell, I remember in the 1/2 road races early this season, some pretty fast guys were out racing on cross bikes (probably on account of training on them all winter).

If you had disc brakes they might technically not be allowed (not sure if that is a usac rule or just uci), but nothing about cantis which I imagine is probably what you have. Even with discs I doubt anyone would really care.

There are two or three guys who race 'cross bikes out here. With Canti's. Nobody seems to care.
