Thanks for the feedback guys. I spun the wheel and it looks a little out of true so I'll take it to my LBS and have them true it and check everything else out.

I was tempted to create a thread in the 41 but the chance of getting a good answer here seems more probable. Today I noticed that when I engage the rear brake I hear a thumping sound, so I checked the brake pads (which need replacing soon), and made sure the wheel was on correctly. There's no thumping sound while I'm riding, only when braking. Any ideas?

What is this whole icy-hot on the knees thing? Does it actually help on cold mornings?

Not icy-hot (brand) since it feels like someone put ice on your knees. No other "normal" brands for that matter (BenGay, Tiger balm, etc etc).
Atomic Balm. And only in the dry for me.
My take
Joe's take
I can handle Medium hotness all the time. Hot is way too hot.
And put your shorts on before you put on the AB.

What is it was US racers and black and other colored socks? Now that my eyes have been opened up a bit, I'm really used to tall, new and perfectly white socks and white shoes.

Time for a new helmet thanks to my crash yesterday.
I can get a big discount at Rudy Project. I can get the $150 Zuma for $90. Or I can get the Kontact+ that I've been using for my last couple helmets for $105.
Considering my discounts, is there any reason to try a Giro or Bell? Or should I just keep going with the Rudy Project.

Most common reason I find (and the reason pros don't have them): replaceable dropout. Make sure it's lubed. Take it off, slather area with anti-seize or grease or something, reinstall.
A lot of pros (including many that were "Cannondale" riders) would have bikes with normal hangers. Gets rid of creak. And if they trashed the frame, they'd just get another one.

Creaking with speedplays: keep them very clean. Use the speeplay graphite lube every three rides and after riding in the rain. The next thing to check is your QR skewers. Undo them and tighten them back up nice and tight. Next, torque the stem bolts using a torque wrench. I would do all of this before touching the BB. My Felt had squeaking, creaking, and groaning for the first 1K miles. I did all of the above, and now it's quiet.

I may not have been totally clear. Slather everything, including the machined sides of dropout and frame, with antiseize and/or lube. Not just screw.
It's the movement of dropout against frame that can make noise.

You were clear, and that's what I did. But I still have a noise problem. Guess it's time to invest in more tools.

Peloton Shelter Dog
Test drove the Honda Insight the the Toyota Prius today. The Insight felt like a Honda Civic with no power. The Prius felt like Lexus hybrid. We're getting a Prius. With Nav. Gold, so it matches our dog Sam.

first crash today; low speed maneuvering in some deeper-than-it-looked gravel. Baselayer saved my elbow (which took the hardest impact) from any gravel/road rash. Someone should tell everyone about these things.
Pulling gravel bits out of the leg wounds in the shower is an experience I can live without repeating. This will probably convert me into a leg-shaving type as soon as I'm able. The blood-matted hair is a pain.
