Vuelta 2010 - spoilers permitted
great finish yesterday. gilbert made it look easy. he's got class.
i'm going with nibali ftw, but have no real idea since the big names built their season around the TdF.
Thanks Universal Sports for the coverage!

Love the terrain so far - a mix of desert and Mediterranean shrubs. Reminds me of eastern Wa a bit.
Great finish yesterday - and yeah he made it seem all too easy.
Btw they just said Van de Velde slipped on olive oil yesterday??

Anyone have a place to watch this other than Universal sports? I'm depressed only being able to read news stories on the stages and not getting to watch it.
I heard Vande Velde went down, but it was minor and he was okay. He is actually still looking forward to the rest of the tour, and feeling good.

Gilbert is my favorite rider...he just looks tough, he always looks like he's turning himself inside out....kinda like jens.

I met him once at a cafe in Gent. I got a really good impression from him, I'm happy he won today.

Stage 5: Farrar's victory salute is what you'd expect from a Cat 4 rider. He obviously isn't used to winning races, so doesn't have much victory salute practice.
Maybe he put the germies in Cav's food?

Yeah I'm not sure what was up with that salute. He does have experience winning, but I think maybe he was even surprised he beat cav!

No way
If you just have to hype up an American rider, at least pick one of the ones performing well

TF seems like a nice young man when i hear him interviewed. it surprises me he can grow fangs and compete in a PT GT field sprint.

Vandevelde has no chance of doing anything. It's no knock on him, but after his crash in the Tour he's had no training, almost quit the sport, and has said directly that he's only here to support his team and try and get some form again.

Team rules seem like a good reason to me. If you don't like that one there's the numerous studies correlating alcohol with reduced performance, and it doesn't sound like this was a beer with dinner. As for the getting back at 5am, I've never done a stage race, but I've done 3 day swim meets, prelims finals each day, and can't imagine having the energy to stay up to 5 am during those.
