So the Big in BigSean isn't ironic.

Yeah, little over 6' at 153. I've got a lot of shortcomings but weight isn't one of them!

3. Be strong enough the rest of the season to consistently and comfortably finish in the pack.

Not really goals, but I'd also like to try a couple of TTs, try my first stage race and maybe join a team.

I see i'll have competition. Never done it but i'm gonna be training for that and everest challenge along with racing.

How much weight did you drop and how long did you stay at that weight before giving up? I find that it takes months (if not an entire year) for the body to adapt to weight loss if you are pushing less than 10% BF

My goal is to obtain enough points for CAT 2. In order to meet that goal I got to "fix" the following.....

Raise my 5 to 10 minute power number(s).... This is what wins races folks

Keep my weight in check.... 5ft 11 and 166 currently but still adjusting to the weight loss I have done since spring (was 202 at the end of April this year). Going to try for 160 as my "race weight" for next year's A events.

Keep focused this winter while avoiding burn out... Hit it a little too hard a few winters ago and paid for it by mid summer.

i'm thinking morgantown and appalacia more so than tucker, but all are really good.

also the lost river valley road race in lost river state park area that is part of the MABRA calender

although charleston is kind of far away from everything

well - I've got both of those RRs on my calendars as events that I want to be kissing the girls at...
my team is recruiting pretty hard for guys that want to do stuff like happened this last year at IVRR. You rode a good race in tough conditions as I recall from your race report - what are you up to this saturday morning? I'll pm you with more details.

Bought my first road bike almost exactly one year ago. Started racing in March, and had a huge year goals wise.
Went from 190 to 158lbs.
FTP peaked at 4.6 w/kg and 5min at 5.8.
Did Tour Of the Catskills and held my own really really fast guys on some really hard climbs.
Joined a team full of guys that are amazing, work together really well, and have a blast racing bikes.

Couldn't have asked for a better first season. Now that I've really begun to figure out some of my weaknesses, its time to target those next year, and improve my strengths.

-I'm awful at the actual act of racing. My mind wanders, I tend to lose focus and get a "good enough" attitude when I get really tired, and I lose position way too easily. I also waste a lot of energy when I don't have to (ie, starting climbs from the back and having to catch all the guys up front, losing ground on descents because I get nervous and then having to sprint once we hit the flat again, etc) Its time to fix all of that.
-Cat 3 upgrade. By Battenkill at the latest, though my hope is that I'll have it by mid March. I only need a few more points.
-5w/kg FTP and 6.3 w/kg 5 min by the time Green Mountain comes around. Didn't really do much specific V02 work this year, and realistically didn't do nearly as much threshold work as I could have done, so I think with more structure I can make some really big gains in both of those areas.
-Get my sprinting form down better. I can sprint moderately well wattage wise, and I'd like it to get even better, but my form is terrible, so I'd like to get that really dialed.
-155lbs and 8 or 9% body fat.
-Top 10 Killington and Top 5 Green Mountain.

Big goals...but hopefully I can continue the improvements that I saw this year. Also, now that I have a year under my belt I'm hoping to really avoid that end of season burnout that came with training straight through for almost a year.

But for now its having fun riding mountain bikes and enjoying the off season.

Upgrade to cat 3. cat 5 currently (i'm ambitious). compete in big races like killington, battenkill, and green mountain stage race. bump mt washington time from 1:10 to at least 1:05, and win junior category. (shooting for record 57:xx by age of 19). be prevalent rider in local hammer ride. bump TT skill, currently is lacking. keep weight of 132 as much as i can, only increase strength (inspiration from 19 year old livestrong rider-138lbs and just won the pro/1/2 cat at the portsmouth crit). and most importantly, get some race wheels

ditto on all of this. I'll never be a sprinter, but that does mean i should be near the back of the pack in the last few laps especially with my power numbers. After I upgrade, I gonna be helping out in the leadout so I'll need to be better at positioning. The focus part is hard for me too.

Ah cool....

My goals in the style above:

2011 Goals

Power and Weight:
#1 Drop down to 92-93kg from 95-96kg
#2 Continue to grow FTP - try to get up to power/weight of 4.5+

Specific Races:
#3 Main goal is Melbourne-Warrnambool race - building up to this 270km race with the aim of finishing in under 7 hours (winners finish in about 6:20)
#4 Do better in SKCC Hotdog criterium (was spat out the back about half way through this year)
#5 Tour of Bright coming up in 10 weeks - likely to want to do it again next year and improve

Upgrading:
#5 Race in a grade where I am competitive and challenged

Miscellaneous:
#6 Keep the training up along with motivation
#7 Learn more patience - no need to attack continuously (although I should be more challenged after moving up to B grade)

Recap for this year:
#1 Club champ for my age group
#2 First year of racing and have moved from D grade to B grade (although there is a less formal handicapping process than in the US and elsewhere)
#3 FTP @ about 355W first time I measured in April - which would have been a decent increase from before racing
#4 Prolapsed disc which had me off from December to Febuary

Still formulating my goals, but, I think 3 key elements will be dropping about 10-12 pounds, putting in a good number of miles/hours before the racing begins, and improving my flexibility and core strength. I suspect that if i do this, the rest will take care of itself. Also, I like my team in Austin, but, I'm feeling the desire to join a group/team of folks with a Boston area presence.

I know several people who have done it. It wasn't all that. I've traveled all over the country for years and if you're looking for the nuances between homogenized strip malls, have at it. If you want something "crazy" go south of the border. Or at least north; Canada is marked "there lie monsters" in most US minds, and Alaska is still stunning.
