Agreed. It was probably highly processed food as well, with lots of sodium causing water retention. Flush it out and you'll be alright.

Heh. I've been looking to break 1600w forever. Actually 1800w since long time ago a friend with a powermeter told me "Dude you had to have done 1800w on that jump because you killed it and I hit 1400w" or something like that). I've never broken 1600w ever.

In training I've hit 1550s or so, rarely. 1400s a bit more frequently.

In races... 1250 is really, really high for me for a race peak. I hit 1450 3x once when warming up for a race but in the race I was much lower. 1100 is normal and I'll average that for a good 5-10 seconds, 1000w for maybe 20s. I once won a training race in a sprint that I led out and my peak wattage was only 955w (Tue night worlds, it started to rain so they rang the bell... I guess it was hard to put down power as it was slippery, and I went from a long way out, led into the last turn and jumped from there).

So for me to add 250 would mean a race peak of 1500w. That would be huge, just crazy good. Or about 1800 for training. Again, huge.

5 lbs for 250w may not be realistic. 5 lbs for 100w maybe.

For the women, I don't know peak power, but I recall one thread where a racer said she'd do 800w peak or so. Make that 1000w and it's a race changing difference. At 1000w you could place in a Cat 3 field sprint. At 800w... not so much. (I asked an ex-pro woman racer about power but she kind of avoided answering so it's probably low, but she's also tiny and not necessarily a sprinter).

This is a great way to look at quick weight gains.

CDR: I think your assessment is spot-on. My coach has had me spending a lot of time in the gym, and doing a lot of strength work on the bike, so I think she is trying to target what you're talking about. I'll report back on peak power (well, I'll let you know what my superstar sprinter teammate who just got a Cinquo puts out as it will certainly be more impressive than whatever I can do) once racing starts.

ravenmore, any time I've had that kind of sudden weight gain after a vacation or whatever it's always gone away just as quickly.

My surgeon put me on some sort of anti-inflammatory just before Christmas, I asked if I would get any water retention from taking them - he said no - 21 pounds later I think he was wrong. 21 pounds in the 2 weeks I was taking them.

Visiting my Grandmother put 10 pounds of weight on me in 10 days and I rode my bike almost everyday for several hours.... this was back in september

This week I finally got my butt in gear and started eating healthy so far since Monday morning I'm down 5 pounds

I assume allot of it is water and not much fat yet..... I have my reservations about the calories in this diet being way too low for me but I'm also not following it to the letter and I still have my cytomax when on the bike and a quality post workout shake to bring me up to around 2500 calories a day. I was 212 Monday now I'm 207.

My goal for this season will be to get to 185 before my first priority race.... still heavy for this sport but a step in the right direction.

Yes except there is only one crit around here so I race road races and some stage races and even a TT if I'm suckered into it

I even race some MTB stuff in the sport category

last year I raced in the D category our lowest and came in 3rd overall and placed mostly 2nd in my races except one 3rd (in a TT) and one 4th. The 4th was a stage race where my teammate took 3rd.

I had the opportunity to beat them in the climb and take the 3rd but instead worked for them to make sure one of us was on the podium.

I expect this season in the next category up to be a allot of learning and a shovel full of my butt getting handed to me

hopefully not a huge shovel if I get leaner since I feel my fitness it up and my threshold HR is up a few beats.
