Anyone here know about Windows 10 Bitlocking OPAL discs? I want to lock my disc to my PC (bitlock) but do not want to require a boot password (ie - I want it to boot up if lost). And I don't want this drive to work if moved to another PC. I understand the OPAL drive is supposed to do hardware encryption, but I don't see any indication it is not software encryption when I bitlocked it - other than it happened much faster (5x or so).
Is Windows 10 (pro) so smart to notice the hardware dealt with encrypting so the software does not need to?

The person that I work with scheduled a web meeting for last Friday and I agreed to it, but told him what was going on by email.

He cancelled our meeting. I think that he wants to get things fixed on his end first.

But today my SOW reappeared in the billing portal. That is the good news. The bad news is that invoices from a month ago are still pending.

I am thinking that I am caught in the middle of some weirdness on the other end that is totally out of my hands and not about me.

Never install an app for that which you can access through the browser. I use my phone to do limited, specific things, so instead of cramming it with everything but a kitchen sink app, I tend to install only those third party apps that I'm absolutely sure that I need: GPS Essentials (because it doesn't force me to"sign in" to use it, and allows me to save my rides/route as .kml files,) Firefox (which is still terrible in mobile guise, but I use it extensively on the desktop,) and Microsoft's OneDrive and Office apps (because my work depends on them; I tried calling even those for Google's own apps, but ran into all sorts of compatibility issues with clients, plus Microsoft's one terabyte of cloud storage is far more generous than Google's. As a matter of fact, the very first apps I delete/disable as soon as I set up a new phone or factory reset an existing one are Facebook (intrusive memory hog,) Twitter (really?) and LinkedIn, along with a bucketful of vendor- and operator-bundles apps. My phones and I are much happier, and I tend to keep and use any phone that I particularly like (a Sony Z1 Compact in my case) for years rather than months.

Read my post again, with a little more attention?

Let me break it down for you:

A. I like Sony phones. I've been using them (and "dumb" Ericsson and Sony Ericsson phones) since forever; I've tried other brands and platforms, and Sony is the one that I keep coming back to: The balance between bloat and purity has always been just about right for me. They're the only phones that I've used that have exactly the native apps that I need "the album, mainly, and an excellent camera app) and allow me to get rid of/disable whatever I don't like.

B. I like to keep things simple and in one place; i.e. I just want fewer apps, not more, no matter how cool you or anyone else says they are: If I can access Photobucket or whatever from Mobile Firefox with AdBlock Plus enabled, then I won't be installing the app.

Capish?

i get that point. fwiw the new iOS (finally!) will let users delete preinstalled apps. yay.

unfortunately not every site has been optimized for a mobile browser, and some that have been 'optimized' (their words) have not been optimized by everyone else's definition.

of course, some mobile apps are total $hit.

i'm interested in the right tool for the job; lots of times that's not a mobile phone at all.

Yes it did - one, to be exact...

I'm totally down with Google forcing vendors and operators to allow users the option to delete preinstalled apps, but with so many of them around, enforcing such a rule certainly is going to be a nightmare.

And that's a problem I run into with so many websites originating in the Middle East, which is especially disappointing when the website is well known or belongs to a major corporation.

Also true, unfortunately - Photobucket and most so-called "cycling" apps I've come across come to mind, among countless others. That's why I just use PB's mobile site to upload pictures that I need to embed. I lieu of all those craptastic cycling apps, I use GPS Essentials for my cycling and navigational needs; it doesn't force me to tie my activities into social media, and one of its best features is that it lets me save my routes as KML files that I can upload to OneDrive and view in Google Earth.

Yup. Microsoft Word for mobile saved my a$$ in a pinch on more than one occasion, but editing a press release on my Z1C's 4.3" screen while I'm sitting on the john in the morning is just this far from ideal!

In all seriousness, no matter just how advanced smartphones might get, there just no escaping the fact that too many things still require a proper PC to get done efficiently and right. And IMHO, the major limitation is just that: display size.

If any of y'all feel like submitting issues for the apollo program code, it's up on github now.
The code that took America to the moon was just published to GitHub, and it?s like a 1960s time capsule ? Quartz

My cell provider borked their firmware update. The borking has broken their SMS system. Since I updated the firmware yesterday, any time I receive a text message I receive a copy of a smiley face that my gf sent me yesterday. So I've got like 40 smileys and no idea what workouts I'm supposed to be doing the rest of the week. The funny thing is MMS works fine. The only thing I can figure is some junior engineer had a test variable that he forgot to swap with a live one which does not increment a pointer defined elsewhere, and then they must have skipped staging to meet a deadline.

Any time I have a bad day of 'gramming I will remember that poor bastard probably got fired for causing a few million in damages. Poor buddy

You have to use the [ url ] tag now.

Not sure why they downgraded the software here but whatever.

My new laptop seems to be dying. Only boots rarely, once it does it's fine, as long as it doesn't get locked or go to sleep. Tried upgrading the bios once when I got it to boot, but didn't help. Tried reseting by doing the battery and stuff, worked twice, probably just luck.

No post essentially. I guess it needs to go back for warranty, which really sucks. Reading online looks like they've had main board issues.

Well, the reality is that one no longer needs the icon. Embedding the link in the reply box automatically posts the video as before. So it is more convenient. Excellent.

I don't think there is any real downside to upgrading. Performance is as good or better, you do have to deal with the very annoying forced updates and the like. But if you want continued support you should upgrade while it is free.

On my own note: I hate Amazon Redshift databases. They make Update statements the biggest PITA I have ever seen, and they do not have any Upserts. So they tell you that if you want to ever do a bulk update or upsert you need to create a temporary staging table and then a merge. Best part is? Their insert statements also also are horrible (And take forever to execute).

My youngest son is doing GED math tutoring as a service. He works with the least educated ones.

He complained to me recently that he couldn't get any of them to understand decimals. I said put a $ in front and they will understand at least two digits beyond the period. Then work from there.

He really liked the idea,

Everybody gets it when there is money involved.

It's really sad how uneducated (usually through no fault of their own) a lot of people still are in a supposedly 1st world country. In high school I was in the highest math class, and as one of my classes I helped out in a pre algebra or something like it. These were 10th graders as I recall, mostly. My most distinctive memory is of doing negative numbers. There was a decent portion of the class that had trouble with 3 - 5 = -2 and such things. It was sad.

got in under the wire. cloned my VM, so i can run it in win7 or win10 if i need to. thanks! i had upgraded another one from w7 to w10, but for some reason i'd left this one on w7.

unrelated.....do any of you find you have to constantly enter login credentials to strava?

i go to strava.com, i click login and the best i can get it to do is display my login/password. it never automatically logs me in. (OS X, safari, firefox ... also windows + chrome)
