Another bloody Lance thread....

Am I the only one who's a bit sick of Lance-mania?? Has he become bigger than the sport itself?

Thoughts?

Excellent point, and it's about time. Always said those Aussies were brilliant. BRILLIANT I TELLS YA

BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT. I might move there

Every "Lance" post should have some sort of Merckx disclaimer

Only to Americans....

Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah Lance blah blah .......

But it's not exactly his fault. He didn't invent our tendency towards mindless celebrity worship, nor our urge to reduce complex topics (like the sport of bicycle racing) into little sound bites... And I can't bring myself to begrudge him cashing in on his celebrity when that's just the way things are done in American professional sports. Really the only difference is that few American cyclists are ever presented with the opportunity to sell out

Don't worry - Lance won't be overexposed for long - we also have VERY short attention spans.

You chose the way of the hero. And they found you amusing for a while, the people of this [country]. But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail... fall while trying. In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually they will hate you.

Stolen and reworded a little

Lance is a great man...nay, he is a national hero. More importantly he rides a TREK which makes him the best.

Hands up anyone on the boards who has won 5 TDF's...didn't think so. If you don't have anything good to say about Lance then perhaps you should say nothing.

Excuse me, but I have won seven Tours de France - Lance has only won six. I am better. And because I am a lot bigger than all of you, I am correct by default.

That reminds me of a Futurama quote...

....and whta is even worse...Trek have released a poxy looking 'livestrong' yellow bike...I mean....enough!...just ride the bloody thing without promoting something...we all know he survived cancer.........fantastic.....great 1st book, the 2nd one sucked...it was a miracle...but just ride the bike.....or get elected president & invade the rest of the non- Lance speaking world...........

Hitchy...nods approvingly...that should help Ed's thread along!

Thread recap:

Lance. Lance. Lance.

Hitchy disdains logic.

Devil is bigger and wins.

A great athlete and an inspirational good person.

Now here is what makes me wish Lance will retire from the spotlight asap:

How many of you have ever ridden past rednecks or college students and heard "woo woo go Lance!!" ?? I hate that. I hate riding my bike in public when the tour de france is happening-- almost makes me want to go mtb in the woods.

Hopefully next year Lance will be beat out by some relatively anonymous elfin, non-photogenic, non-english-speaking, pink-jersey-wearing Italian.

No way can Lance keep his performance up much longer. If he does, it will raise a lot of suspicion.

Yeah, he's not a real bike racer
hehe

I get annoyed at how everyone *****es about Armstrong as if they are his father and that Armstrong is supposed to do whatever they want him to.

"Boo hoo, Armstrong doesnt race 300 days a year"
"Boo hoo, Armstrong doesn't ride they way they did decades ago"

JUST SHUT UP

Of course I shouldn't bother to get annoyed either. My fault.
