Sorta. It doesn't log a value for parameter x until the value changes. So if you held your cadence steady for an hour it would only log one cadence record. Same for speed, power, HR, etc. In theory it should work but I like logging every second.

The consensus is yes. Averaging in the zeros is a more accurate log of what work you're actually doing. Climbing a hill at 300 watts for 5 minutes and then coasting down for 5 minutes (magical hill, I know) would give you a 300 watt average instead of 150 watts if zero averaging were on.

Wait, I'm confused. Does turning on the 'zero averaging' setting average in the zeros (giving you the correct-er 150 w avg) or does turning off the 'zero averaging' setting do that?

Zero Averaging Off = 0s excluded from averaging
Zero Averaging On = 0s included in averages.

Off is closer to NP. For me, I see 0s included as kind of like average speed. I don't care what the average power is, including descents. I want to know the average power I was pedlaing with. It's all kind of not important though, as I use Golden Cheetah time/power histogram to get an idea of how hard and how long the cumulative efforts were.

Snow storms seem to have a knack for ensuring that my force intervals don't actually happen. I wish I had my trainer here at home.

This.

Also, the Garmin 500 switches off "smart" recording when paired with a power meter. I think it uses 1 sec intervals.

Did my first real set of intervals in 26 years today. F-A-I-L. 1x5, followed by 2x10. I got through the 1x5 OK. Halfway through the first 2x10 I cracked. Took a minute off, then tried again. 3 minutes later I cracked again. Minute off, then finished. The second 2x10 I went 6 minutes, cracked, then finished. I finally felt pretty good in the last 3 minutes of the 2nd. Now I remember what pain feels like.

I decided I didn't want to deal with wet roads, road salt, and 20+mph winds again. I also decided I didn't want to get on the trainer.

4 hours of wet riding? No. No thank you. 3 hours was plenty. Fail. Bootie fail too. Grimness.

Got out for a road ride yesterday. As I'm riding, I decide that on Monday I can fit in a long-ish ride before work since the kids will be sleeping in due to MLK holiday.
Just before bed, I look at the forcast: 6 deg F in the morning ! too cold for me ....... I sleep in, finally get up and do about 35 minutes on the trainer ..... fail

Attempted 3x15min@.95IF today but had to bail halfway into the second interval. I felt like I had plenty of energy, but my legs just weren't there and I couldn't put out the power. I decided to call it a day and cruised home easy.

I tried to fail my gym workout today but my coach wouldn't let me. That's what I get for asking permission rather than begging forgiveness. I'm pretty sure she's trying to kill my legs.

I suspect tonight will be a training failure because I have no desire to sit on the trainer, but I will set it up regardless in the event I get a second wind.

I had 3, 20s scheduled for this morning. But things started to go wrong.
The first one was great. I added 3x1.5min all out efforts in the end. Then the front wheel (on the trainer) went flat. WTH?
Then the bike started really creaking like something was loose. So I tried to ignore everything and go for the 2nd 20min. I almost got finished and couldn't take it any longer.

I got off the bike and started working on it instead. Hopefully I can reboot and try again Friday. Tomorrow is a day in the gym.

Longer than expected dinner with work peeps = training fail. But I did walk home after which was around 40 minutes at a pretty brisk pace. Better than nothing I guess.
