Any tips for an early BM?

For serious. I have to race at 8am tomorrow and I don't normally poop till 9 or later. Any tips?

I wish I were an afternoon pooper :(

Coffee. And or get up earlier.

kenji666 02-19-11 06:20 PM

Hold it in until after the race.

Too risky!

I'm with the get up earlier...

All I need is my bagel with PB&J plus a coffee and I'm good to go 20min later....Doesn't matter what time I get up at...

It's too late now, but in the future you could try adding more fiber to your diet.

I can't believe I just posted in this stupid thread.

coffee+bf does it for me every morning.

Htfu

6 Colon Cleanse caplets with plenty of water the night before. Drink a large glass of water when you awake, you'll go.

HMF 02-19-11 07:36 PM

I'll try getting up earlier. I'll try caplets some other day.

Castor oil works, but I do not recommend it.

Coffee works well for me.

+1. But...It is something that all racers have developed a plan for. I don't think many of us leave it up to chance.

I usually eat a good helping of salad the night before. In the morning, Coffee with breakfast while at the computer or watching TV.

rbart4506 02-20-11 06:41 AM

That' part of the pain of being a Master3...I always race at 8:30am and have to be there at least an hour beforehand for registration and warmup...Add in an hour of travel time for most races and I'm getting getting up at 4:30am....UGH!

Gotta get faster :)

Haha. Well said.

I've always found a cigarette will help things along. Might not be the best idea before a race and I don't smoke so I never have one handy anyway. I've never worried about this anyway except before my half Ironman. Seems like a bike race generally isn't long enough for this to be a factor.

RunningPirate 02-21-11 01:04 AM

I realize that the race has come and gone, but for future reference: Cafe Bustelo and Kashi Go Lean. After that power-packed combo, you'll be calling it "Kashi Go Lean Over the Toilet and **** Twice your Body Weight".

I lol'ed really hard at this! Glad this thread is still alive. For the race, I woke up 20 minutes earlier than needed and drank coffee right away. It worked. Finished 4th too! woot

dwellman 02-21-11 10:08 AM

I was going to suggest running 8 or 9 miles, too, but that's probably not preferred method of race prep.

badhat 02-21-11 02:28 PM

the night prior to race day, eat an early dinner, low in fat, high in fiber, and drink plenty of water.

if i dont eat until like 8 oclock the night before a race, i'm doomed.

Honestly, A pre race "Victory Sh*t" is key to a good race result. All of the pro's know this. In his day, Indurain was the master of this technique. It was rumored that the giant could easily take a 7lb growler and even had to have his own porta can because teammates refused to go in afterwords - even if the door had been open for a while.

In my opinion, the answer to your challenge is mostly mental. If you focus on the physical aspects too much you could end up blowing an O-Ring.

You need to read a book on sports psychology (maybe while you're trying to poop) and use those techniques to not beat yourself before you even give the chocolate hot dog it's first squeeze.

My $.02

rbart4506 02-24-11 10:07 AM

If you're doing it right there ain't any squeezing involved :)
