The Race Video Thread!

me: Hey! What are you doing here? (he'd never been to the race before and usually does Battenkill)
him: I'm here to beat you
me: :/
me: well, good luck with that.
There was a protest on my sprint that wasn't upheld. Complaint was I deviated from my line. Of course the hill is an S. The official said they couldn't get enough corroboration on something they couldn't see and based on prior sprints and results they weren't inclined to change it.

I am rightly biased, so FWIW, but that protest was a joke. Just watch the video. You are clear of all other riders, and in full view of both officials.
BTW I have made the same move in the past and riders complained about it.

I think the complaint was when I came I moved towards the left curb shutting the inside line. So it was right when the sprint took off. Still, I agree it was a joke and it was instituted by a couple of guys who repeatedly see the sprints as being closer than they are.
'we're the two best sprinter here'
'ok.'
'no really, no one is close to us.'

the cameraman tried to strip my team to build his. he got one guy, his lead out, who beats him. The guy who was third in the sprint was talking crap to me before the race

I don't know. It was a chippy sort of morning. I was talking to my lead out guy (super close friend who rides for another team and shows up when he can to help me) about what other races were around and how they'd effect our race. Some woman interjected herself into the discussion with 'there's a pro race at battenkill this year.....the women!' And then normal smug mumblings about sexist guys. I thought my wife was going to deck her.

The race seems so civilized, it hides the fact that it was so windy and so hard.
The thing that struck me was just how long the Bethel rider was out in the wind on that last lap. If I'd done that I'd have blown up before the sprint even started. He gained nothing - he should have moved up or moved back. Instead he sits in the wind for the whole headwind backstretch.
Based on reports from people he rides with I'm pretty sure that he trains in one week what I do in a normal month and twice what I do in a light month. All that fitness doesn't mean anything if it's flagrantly wasted.

He went on to be in the move that lapped the field in the A race. He won the masters race the week before. Short on race smarts, and no sprint I can see. But strong.
btw, not sure if it's an error or you haven't gotten to it but the link for the results from Sunday doesn't exist on the site, and the GC is still from last week. Though the direct link you posted for Sunday's results works.

KDTX: carnage asada taco please.. :-)
You can see the tire get ripped from the wheel during the skid on crash #1 (in the slo mo version). #2 into the guardrail could have been serious.

You can see that I'm soft pedaling and such, even when I'm on Kevin Y's wheel going into the sprint. In that particular sprint I overgeared when I jumped, going in a 53x12 but thinking it was a 53x13 (I intentionally fitted a 12-x cassette instead of an 11-x cassette so I wouldn't overgear in the sprint). I was also racing on a particular front wheel for the first time, a 14 year old 24H Zipp 440 rim I just rebuilt into a front wheel. It flexed a lot more than I realized and I couldn't hold my line when I jumped - every pedal stroke the front wheel went sideways until I had to ease up on the pedals so I didn't hit the curb. By 7:01-7:02 I was already further left than I wanted to be. I didn't want to be on the curb, that's for sure. Whatever, the sprint was the sprint.
Final irony - the guy that led out the winner by accident is now my teammate and the second strongest on our team in the Bethel Spring Series. The guys in dark blue were his teammates - one of them couldn't hold onto the initial leadout's wheel so the leadout ended up working for someone else. That team's sprinter is also on my team now and he's actually our team leader in the Bethel Spring Series. I've been racing against him for a good 25 years and we've always been friendly and respectful. This is only the second year I've been on the same team as him and it's a breath of sanity in the insanity of amateur bike racing.

What may be lost is the camera is away solo on the last lap. My teammate Matt dug him back before the sprint unfolded.
