I make it my duty as a son in law to catch black widows with my son, take pictures of them in the bug box my mother in law gave to him, and send the pictures to her.

And I have no issue flipping out when I walk through a spiderweb. The only reason the spider builds its web where I walk is because it thinks it's big enough to take me on.

Sold my Cannondale, the one I loaned out which was crashed in a race after I was promised it wouldn't be raced. The new owner seemed happy with it and it seems to fit him, (he's about 6'5").
Mrs. John said I should sell a couple more and put the money toward a new ride.

I read that book a lot....

Bugs.....Flying roaches when in Taiwan. Giant Banana Spider when in Taiwan. Scorpions when living in El Paso....in the pool, crawling across the floor while watching TV, in your clothes if you left them on the floor.....ugh....

One thing I love about the midwest is that the bugs aren't like something from out of this world.

Hit the deck a couple of nights ago on a cross practice. Hard. X-Rays yesterday...no broken ribs but bruised. I don't have time for this. Trying to at least enjoy the pain-killer induced mental vacation.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have a brand new cross bike. The club is asking me why I'm not at practice. Being a total cross noob, I need all the practice I can get. But with an important road race on 9/11, the only thing that I'm doing on this bike is commuting. I just can't risk it. I will crash and crash hard learning that stupid sport. The season is long. It can wait.

We found a black widow after moving into our current house here in Colorado. Then we went looking....we found 8 in short order. All were inside the house. Yikes. I was pleased to learn just how unlikely it is to be bitten, even if you're tossing them around in your hands. That's good because they really are EVERYWHERE around here and very easy to find once you know what their webs look like.

My brother was bitten by a brown recluse while in high school. The welt was about the size of a silver dollar. Red with a black center...like this. Yikes!!!! He was on antibiotics for a long time afterwards.

There's a soda that was invented here in my hometown called Sun Drop. It's known for it's sugary, citrusy, caffeine filled goodness. People put it in other foods and add things to it to make it even better - like a splash of cherry. Our hometown was the reason they put Tagamet over the counter.

But my boss decided that he wants us to drink it without 2 of the best ingredients in it: sugar and caffeine. What's next, Caffeine and citrus free diet Sun Drop? What's the point? Just go and get some carbonated toilet water and leave good alone.

Brown Recluses are nasty. They are the only spider I kill immediately. All other spiders I let go (including my black widows). Brown Recluses? The only thing I release is the greasy patch that remains when I am done with them.

Just bought better books to start studying for MCAT take two.

The next 5 months will be fun.

I just hope I don't destroy this relationship in the process. I know what will be, will be, but hopefully I've learned from the past and will be able to find a balance between putting in the hours for studying and making the time to see her and my friends.

It just means that 40 hrs a week at work has to be 40 hrs a week instead of the 46 or so I end up with most weeks. It also means that I have to be 110% efficient.

Thank you caffeine for making this next chapter of my life possible.

And you think the result of a successful MCAT will be any less difficult? Or the move to a med school across the country if that happens to be the one you get into and really like? If you get into med school, you'll be spending significantly more time with the cadaver than your girlfriend.

Now, to find my next soul to cheer up. Its Friday!
