Good news: Wife found a part time job
Bad news: I won't be able to get my upgrade this year
Good news: Wife and I are doing much, much better
Bad news: I'm eating a microwave dinner for lunch
Good news: Doing a long, hilly solo ride tomorrow morning
Bad news: Our vacuum died
Good news: I'm still alive and kicking
Bad news: I could die from some strange happening any time. Like, aliens probing me and harvesting my organs.

house in NJ is back together, though most of my neighborhood has been condemned to various degrees. heading north shortly to assess our house there and to volunteer in the community. it's pretty ugly up there. from our favorite muffin stop being destroyed, to roads and bridges being gone, and the backcountry being off limits, all in all it'll be a rough weekend.

all joking and witty banter aside, I hope things come around for you, and everyone else up there.

living in FL and having been through a few nasty 'canes I have a really good idea how bad it sucks.

Dunno where to ask this , probably not in this forum but you guys know better:
How much (if at all) should you be able to peel a tubular tire back off the rim when it is deflated?

Just got back from helping clean up debris. Found a trail head sign from our park, 3 miles down the road (huge sign.. on a 8 foot tall post) very tired!

I have pretty much decided to just ride my heavy training clinchers for GMSR. I am too tired to tool with my bike, swapping brake pads and cassettes, etc. Also a bit worried about the condition of the roads and not sure of the glue job on there anyway. Figure I might yield 20-30 seconds on that final climb. I will just have to work harder.

I'll say 1/16" along the side of the tire, max. 1/8" for me would mean a reglue.

OK. thanks . I can nearly peel it back to the center of the rim (deflated ). Can't do much when its inflated but still sounds like I am smart to pass on these for 50mph descents ripping around corners.

You're a good man, gsteinb. Good luck and be careful this weekend.

Some reports of area roads (some on the race course) up here in western MA:

"East Hawley Road 50% gone at haripin, West Hawley Road, half road washed out at lowest bridge crossing, gaping hole 6 feet deep, Route 112 heavily damaged in Buckland with much of shoulder missing in places, 112 closed in Colrain at bridge over North River. Beware there is a noticeable dip and new longitudinal cracks on 116 near the Conway Ashfield line, Very dangerous to cyclist on a fast downhill.
All shoulders with swales from I-90 north along the Westfield and Deerfield Rivers and their tributaries are a mess with new cracks.

Poland Road (Conway), is in fairly bad shape.

Stillwater road in Deerfield is gone in two places by the I-91 bridge. Lower road was damaged as well. Stillwater bridge was said to be open."

Pssh...im 40 in dec. and ive had grey hairs on the head/face for a few yrs. What gets me is my eyebrow hair has to be clipped as often as the hair on my head. Left alone, a few of them will grow right into my eye.

Local Bike Club started a race team today and is asking me to join. As much as I'd love to race with the local guys, I'm real happy with the team I'm on now.
