Good luck .... I'm too much of a flatlander to do much in that race, although it's in my backyard & I love training on those roads and further north.

Guy on Ebay selling some Red shifters with white hoods for $399.

I'm thinking of asking if he'll sell the hoods by themselves.

Lost a bottle. The feedzone was a mess and every time I would go for a drink someone had a Hulk grip on it. Then I started cramping about mile 60. My left leg seized right before the climb. I mean seized like a mo-fo. Walked up most of the climb to the finish. It was humbling to say the least. Still hurting like crazy. Headache.

But there's always next year and I'll be ready - er.

Does anyone here use Gore sealed cables? I have noticed the shift quality of mine degrade horribly fast. At first the action was extremely light but after about two months of use it takes significant force to shift. Also, how often do you guys change cables/housings?

Done.

Just back from a nice sail. Started out no wind, then picked up decent, and then just after I got my boat out a front came through and destroyed everything. Trees down, huge whitecaps, etc.

I went back to the dock and helped a bunch of idiot powerboaters get their boats out without smashing them to bits. Wiped out now. Time to head to The Girls (she's back in town for the day, again, she's left for this trip 3 times now).

yeah I want it real bad. but right now I'm trying to scrape together enough cash to pay for gas money and to register for races, so buying bike parts is out of the question.

I'm also doing Housatonic. A bit nervous that I may have gotten myself in over my head, though I had a pretty good day at the local club race, so I'm feeling a LITTLE better....

Seriously, if you do better than you've ever done, and don't have something you'd like to do over, that's a pretty darn good ride. Especially in climbing stuff, that's really all you can do.

Disconnect the cable housings from the stops and clean the wires, lightly lube them if you like. Make sure the guide under the bottom bracket is clean. Lube the derailleurs. Smooth shifting returns.

Spent 8.5 hours in the local mountains today, longest I've been on a bike in a long time.
