I don't think it will happen either.

There is some joke in there about holding breath and scuba ...

Speaking of jokes, I always thought that this place that I ride by often is pretty funny. (Crappy image screen captured from Google Streetview) ...

Emma is almost ready, probably have to switch few things around and may use different color tires and bar tape.

She is a big girl made out of steel but still under 20lb. First date coming soon

lol daniel, if you are going to ride with a power level over 9000, you should get deeper rims or more spokes.

the funny thing is that they broke when i wasn't even putting in serious effort

my friend who repaired the others said i should get slightly longer spokes so they have more room to flex instead of just snapping

2 of them broke at the hub, snapped right at the j bend and one broke right at the nipple

What? Get them long enough and they'll poke the tube. Seriously, once you break a spoke it's time to relace the wheel, and the key is a good builder.

Yeah, there's no reason to get a longer spoke. The span between the nipple and the spoke hole will be the same distance, no matter how long the spoke is. Longer spokes just mean threads poke through the back side of the nipple and add nothing but weight and build time.

I usually let my wheels bust three spokes before I rebuild. On two wheels, the first spoke went, but I still got two seasons out of the wheel without any more breaks. It could just be a stress riser from the flange or thread cutter on one spoke. It could also indicate that all the spokes are about to go, but I've never broken more than one in a month, even on a clearly old and dying wheel.

I too need to have my wheel rebuilt...again. My gigawatts have been too much. Either that or the original builder did a terrible job and everything since has been patchwork at best.

Hm. If only we had a resident wheelbuilder who knew a lot about building wheels and designing them right and all that jazz.

If only...

Today started crappily and has been getting better.

-Cooked food that was too spicy last night and my stomach hurt this morning.
-Chicken I was going to marinade for dinner tonight was rotten so I need to buy more
-Forgot my lock on the way to work so had to ride halfway home and get it.
-Saw a girl get hit by car in slo mo. She was fine, no damage, but it was totally avoidable and she was pretty shook up.
-Almost rear ended a bike that just stopped right in front of me for no reason.

Now i remember why I leave at 7:30 and not 8:30. Yuck.

Lets hope the rest of the day is better. So far it is.

This morning I was taking a lane on a narrow stretch of road (doing 27mph in a 40, two-lane road). This mom trying to get her precious snowflake to school decided to lane-share even though she had an entire left lane open, and she gunned as she buzzed me.

It turns out that all the a-holes on my commute are going to one place: Oak Hill Elementary. I ride past three elementary schools and a middle school, and the only a-holes are parents at Oak Hill Elementary. We were over a mile from the school, but I decided to ramp it up and catch her there to tell her off.

I pulled up in the drop-off traffic circle, and sure enough, there she was. She was waiting in line and I really laid into her. No cussing, but I was screaming at her. It felt really good, and her kid had just gotten out of the car and looked shaken that I was yelling at her mom. I think it's important to know your mom is a dipsht as early in life as possible and that she makes decisions that could one day get her family murdered. So I figure I did this kid a favor.

You should have seen the googly eyes on these 12-year-old crossing guards. Nobody had any idea how to react. It was precious.

Stupid mom gets up late, drives while smoking with her kid in the car, and tries to make up time in hopeless traffic because of her poor planning. Before this, I had gotten up early, got the kids ready while mom went for her run, then led a bike pool with six kids from three families to school. This btch needs to grow a pair when it comes to the morning routine.

Racer Ex has been driving his niece 40 minutes to school the last 3 days. Come back to ground zero then go back and pick her up. Racer Ex seems to be able to get there in plenty of time. But then Racer Ex doesn't have to take all that time lighting up a cancer stick.

That's probably the break point.

I once had a similar discussion. She cut me off, I let her have it, she said I shouldn't be in the road, blah blah blah. Before turning to leave I looked at the kids in the back seat and said, "Hey guys, you must be so proud of your mom." They looked mortified.

Yeah...I try to just let things go. But sometimes ya just gotta do it.

I had a lady taking her kid to school buzz me one day this summer. Caught her at the next light. Tapped on the window and informed her that she came a little close and there is a 3 foot law in Tennessee. Both she and her daughter were quite wide eyed. I did feel a little bad that her daughter was in the car. I didn't yell or cuss or anything but I might have scared her rapping on the window. Sometimes something needs to be said though.

Had a similar one last summer when my wife and I were out....

Busy 4 lane road, car passed us as we rode singe file...Too close...Caught them at the next light and roll up beside the passenger window...The window was down, lady stopped eating her fries looked up and said "Too close?" I smiled and said "Yup"...They apologized and moved on when the light turned green...

Not much more I could do there....

Damn! Now that I think about it, I should have asked her for a fry

I do believe that if the penalty for hitting a cyclist was you had to feed him/her for a year, the roads would be a much safer place.
