I just got a Nashbar catalog and they are having a frame sale. Fuji carbon for $500 and frames for $100 and even less.

Didn't see them in the flyer. I checked and the $500 carbon Fuji is a mountain bike frame.

All this talk about base is making me wonder. Is anyone else like me, where the only "base" they do is about 10 cross races through December? I guess I commute and do gravel rides throughout the winter, but don't really specify an actual base period.

Anybody have an opinion on the Trek T1 as an occasional track racing bike?

A few notes:
- Leonard Zinn has 5 couplers on his ti bike - 2 top tube, 2 down tube, stem. It looks like he doesn't have to readjust his bars/stem (since they come off using couplers). He only has to put the seatpost in the right place. His stem and frame are both Ti. It must take him all of 5 minutes to fully assemble his bike.
- soft cases, at least on planes, get more respect. Lack of handles on mine (just two, one in the middle of each side) make it hard to pick up and toss. (I have a Bike Nashbar bag a friend gave me about 17? years ago, maybe more, and I've modded a few things on it since.)
- a UPS guy (racer who has been working there for almost 20 years) told me never to ship things longer than about 4-5 feet via UPS. This probably applies to other services too - the roller conveyer things have some curves where longer items can get trashed pretty quickly, like 8' fluorescent bulbs. He convinced me to always fly with my bike.
No damage I can see on the case. Thanks for the UPS tip, I didn't know that. Luckily, I ship it Fedex 99% of the time. As for flying with it, I can't afford that. I'm often traveling multiple times a month and at ~$100 each way, I'd have to find a new sport.

Yes, his son was there. Both very nice people; he really enjoys talking to people in general and it's always fun to watch people's reaction when you tell them who that guy over there is.

Ride was a blast, other than having do to the first climb twice thanks to a mechanical issue on the new bike. Echelon puts on a top notch event...I had smoked salmon on my bagel.

Group took off with him down Kings Mountain Rd and pretty much did the Moto GP thing on the way down. Ended up being Greg, me and my teammate pretty far OTF. My parting words before we took off were "don't be the guy who takes Lemond out in one of the hairpins".
