Nah, no big deal. We just need to go with the single oven model and not the double. Sears is exchanging it.

True. Not many other amateur sports have participants regularly carried off to the hospital as a normal course of events.

Contract was finalized today. Starting the paperwork for the loan and everything else. Lots of signatures, lots of paperwork to track down. Seriously, who keeps their W-2 from 2 years ago? I don't keep anything, I thought that's what the internet was for.

Also, MagicShine batteries arrived today (perfect timing), except they're one short. I sent in 3 (two big ones and a smaller one), and only got two big ones back. Nothing in the stuff they sent me mentioned they'll be sending me the other one later. Should I be worried? I hate to call them tomorrow since they're so swamped with the recall, but I kinda need the third battery for my brake lights.

First in.

10 years minimum on all tax related records. Forever on real estate (I've had to go back 15 years to find a cost basis).

You can do an IRS 4506 for your tax filings.

We found cancelled checks from 1968 when we moved my mother last year, and most every other thing related going forward. That's a bit of overkill I think.

and you want to keep your tax records for at least the minimum legally required period. you don't want to get into an arguement with the revenue without paperwork. I imagine that your IRS works about as quickly as our tax department. It may take them a couple of years to decide to have a look at something.

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that a forum sticky came in handy for me. The bad news is that it was the road rash one. I low-sided when I hit some sand going around a corner a couple miles from the end of my ride. I've been around that corner a thousand times, just got unlucky. I wasn't even going particularly fast. A motorist was actually nice and asked if I was OK. Who woulda thunk it?

Rashed my lower leg, hip, RHS shifter and a little on my arm. Trashed a pair of (cheap) bibs, too. All in all, not too bad, but it just kinda sucked.

I keep my tax records for 7 years on paper. I have hard disk and optical disc backups going back as far as I've prepared them myself. Just in case.

RacerEx makes a great point about cost basis. I try my best to save every single receipt for anything remotely related to home improvement, not repair.

I didn't even know what cost basis was until I looked it up (ok, so I still don't really understand it, taxes are complicated). So much paper. I suppose I'll start keeping all my tax files and stuff.

Just finished putting my Yakima Stickup rack together. Not too bad, although one piece was frustrating.

Taking 50 minutes to load 3 threads on BF so I'm not going to look for the original posts, no clue if they got responded to already.

psimet - unofficially you have to issue 1099s. These are considered offset on cost of goods, i.e. $1000 paid for wheels, minus $100, means wheels are $900 cost. There is no need for the rebate receiver to "put" the 1099 anywhere, they just have to show that for the $900 wheels, they paid a net total of $900, not $1000. But if it's over $600, you need to issue them. That's for customers/clients and such, not for utilities etc.

I helped someone with dealing with papers her husband had saved. Found stuff from 1948, GI Bill stuff. I learned much later (2 years?) that their son was my teammate about 20 years ago. Small world. As far as how long I save things, I just ask the wife on "saving stuff" questions. USAC is 10 years though, that's what they say.

Sort of like the wheel compatibility issue with the Cervelo S3. Some say that oven door handles are overrated.

Ok, up to speed on Homeland. The action is not as fast paced as 24, and there aren't anywhere near 8-billion different things going on per episode; although, it is picking up steam. But, we have a protagonist on the edge and absorbed with purpose, a cast of potentially interesting characters that, hopefully, will be developed. (Is the computer geek the 24-Chloe equivalent?) I am expecting the twist-and-turn factor to increase. I unexpectedly smiled when the Director said "copy that" to someone while on the telephone. Some random thoughts: the deer-killing scene was strange. I get a touch queasy from some of the scenes as I am more accustomed to somewhat milder presentation that appears on "free tv" (e.g., Fox) rather than the more "intense" (and revealing) exposition that appears on "pay tv" (in this case, Showtime). Carrie is crazed; and the mentor is cool. Overall: I am hooked and must see the next episode. (Alas, I think my Showtime freebie trial might run out soon; hopefully, I can get a push to third week of December!!)
