My daughter just joined the track team. She's out buying shoes because the coach told her that cheer shoes just wouldn't cut it.

Why is it that when you click on anything within the forum it takes forever to load, but if you mouse over even the tiniest bit of an ad you immediately get an enormous and annoying pop-up?

At first I was thinking "There are cheer shoes?" And then 2 seconds later, "Of course there are cheer shoes."

I wouldn't have known, but both my daughters have cheered for a very long time. New shoes every year.

Crit tonight at Orr Rd. I'm hoping I can get my car out of the shop (brakes) and the weather holds out (30% chance o' rain) so I can go.

Good luck tonight. I'm also hoping the weather holds out.

I'm doing the speedway crits in Elon tonight. Weatherman said there is a good chance of storms tonight like we had this morning - which were pretty intense.

And with the speedway crits, the officials don't let us race unless the track is dry. It's apparently too slippery because of all the motor oils and auto chemicals on it when it is wet.

I had to do a layoff today.

This job is way different than being an individual contributor/code slinger.

Good luck. They're calling for rain almost every night. That's the south for ya.

Not gonna rain here. The fact that I didn't bring my bike to go to Ace ensures it.

I've never had to lay anyone off, but I did have to do performance reviews that resulted in one girl crying, and I had to contribute to a paper trail for one guy so we could fire him. None of it was fun.

Yes, it is. I've got a bag full of manager stories. Take it in stride. You will grow from this.

I review every termination in our company. They're not my decisions, but basically I have to approve all of them, and can change who gets the ax in most situations. Not the most fun part of the job.

I got to fire one person...and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course he interviewed for my job when it was open and was so upset he didn't get the job that he spent a year trying to get me fired.

Yesterday I was asked if I was interested in moving into management within my college.

No way Jose. I prefer being in the trenches.

I also had that security interview yesterday, I really think it went OK.

Good luck. If I'd had the wisdom to resist the "promotion" to first line supervisor, I'd probably still be at my agency today.

Anyone raced Ronde von Manor in the past? I'm thinking about running down to Austin to race it this weekend.

That time of year again eh? Hopefully I'll make it down there sometime, to get my ass handed to me in short order, and then hop back in again. It's nearby within riding distance, down a decent road, so I have no excuses.

Three of us lapped the field - then found out that they neutralized the field without telling us until we already saw the back end. So ... It didn't count. Screw it, I thought, I filtered through about 60 or more riders, got back to the front, and went again with 5 laps to go. Unfortunately I was pretty spent and couldn't hold them off. Maybe if i gave up the cigs i could do a little better.

Awesome training though.
