Yay! I finally sold my motorcycle which I haven't ridden in almost a year, so now I can better justify buying some more fancy bike toys like race wheels.

I have a V-rod in my garage collecting dust...I think about selling it often, but it's paid for so I don't stress about it.

Yeah it was paid for so I wasnt desperate to sell. I have just accumulated too much stuff that I don't need, so I might as well get something I'll use.

Thanks all. I guess it offsets my ho-hum midseason racing here

I like HP quite a lot, and they've been working closely with AMD for a long time on system development. Battery life depends a lot on architecture, battery part, and display, so it's tough to say both how long it will hold a charge, and how long it will remain useful. Here's one place to start...

While I still buy only AMD, I haven't worked there since 2009.

This
is actually my current project, just down the street from AMD. The marketing-speak on that page makes my eyes water.

Maybe that's an area where you could cut your losses and eliminate that distraction ?

Time to stop giving stuff away ..... or at least not so much .....

WR, congrats.

Psimet, you'll need all three components. You've got the cashflow and inventory covered with the LOC. Start playing with the numbers to see what kind of margins you'd have to make to pull something out for yourself. Taking a loan or angel investment to grow the business while paying yourself a reasonable rate is preferable IMO. It might swing the wife over to your side as well.

bummer. About $200 out of my price range. Looks like i'll be buying something from the evil empire. OTOH, my 4-year old Athlon X2 desktop that I built up still runs like a champ.

Heh.

I learned the hard way that you can't give stuff away. I also had a skewed view of the world (i.e. never made good money). To me things were too expensive at full retail. I didn't understand that there were people out there who would be happy to pay retail, even in the bike biz. Get what you're worth, at some level at least.

My wife is an accountant. It really helped with the whole Carpe Diem Racing thing, since the guy helping me previously was really running everything. It took a couple years to transition to the point where I did everything again. I still don't understand a lot of stuff, but I do understand that profit <> cash. I showed profit but was in the hole for the first two years that it was "me". This year was healthier.

Well, you can see that I messed with the sliders a bit on the link, so you can lower ram and HDD size and see where that puts you. You can also go for other AMD procs -- I was just kind of going for the faster stuff.

Fox sucks. I couldn't care less about hacking the Queen's phone, but if the Newscorp scandal means that Fox loses the MLB contract, it'll all be worth it.

I don't think it was $20k, but it was a lot. I'd be able to tell you for sure if I could ever get around to finishing my books the way I want to....

I didn't give it all away either. I still own all of it. Kind of a basic thing really. Kind of sad and disappointing and not right when you are a wheel builder and only a few of your racers are riding your wheels...because they can't afford them or they already have wheels....so...

As for the computrainers - it's only a winter thing. Haven't touched them in months now. Will fire them back up again in November. Still....still paying them off.

Those are some sweet looking wheels. Hard to beat the price and I can't believe their handmade. And where else can you consult with the guy that's going to make you wheel? How many times have you seen a thread that is "which wheel should I get"? Well, how about you talk to Psimet and he'll help you figure it out, then build it. How cool is that?

He's been bouncing all over the place. The last time he was successful, he tried to cover his tracks a lot better than previously, but he apparently doesn't know some of the differences between tcsh and bash, so we found some of what he was up to courtesy of history files..

Psimet, I bet once you sell a single Computrainer, you'll take a nice chunk out of that loan. You might want to offer a special on them in the fall just to get the interest up and move a unit or two.

The site looks fantastic. My one comment is this. I know you're all about custom, and custom pricing done via a-la-carte (i.e. wheelbuilder.com) would take a site redesign with drop down menus and all, but I think it hurts you not to have some pricing info out there, even if it's top dollar. Some people don't want to wait for a quote, they want info now. Maybe they're not your type of client and this keeps you close to the ones you're after. Just consider offering a set of stock wheels in each category at a fixed price. Aim for the best margin and the sweet spot compared to your competitors. Build up a couple pairs of each to keep in stock. If that works, then consider what it would take to move towards a shopping cart or even an a-la-carte.

I know a professor of marketing at a prestigious east coast college that might be able to help you out.

Home from work. Feeling like crap. Watching the Tour now, soccer later. I wish I could sleep like a normal person. I went to bed at 8:30 last night, and was still ridiculously tired and feeling sick this morning at 5:45. That's over 9 hours. I'm constantly going to bed really early, and still wearing myself down as the week goes on.
