She's doing well Jim, thanks for asking. No signs of the little one looking for the escape hatch yet but I suspect that will happen sometime this week; she'll be full term on Wednesday. My daughter was two weeks late, maybe this little one will be more punctual.

Wife is here this week. Let's see where this goes.
Yesterday was strange and uncomfortable. We spent the day together with our youngest at the water park. I was there physically but not mentally. My wife could tell. But I wanted to have fun with my little girl and we did. I got too much sun on the white places we cyclists posses. It's pink now.
She just came back, hugged and kissed me. Man, I need a drink.
Oh, look. Some water .... gulp. There. Better.

Almost done with the summer travels.
This week I brought my bike and climbed Roan Mt. from the TN side. 12 miles, 3k vertical with the final 8 miles around 6%. I wasn't prepared gear wise rocking the standard crank with a 12x26 that wouldn't shift into the 26. 40-55RPM cadence on the steep sections. The 3-5% portions felt like a relief.
This was my first mountain climb. I loved it, and envy you guys with mountains. According to Strava I sucked hard on the climb, but next time I'll be geared appropriately.
20, 60, and 90 minute power PRs for sure.

I missed a busy weekend around here.
Damn Sub - best of luck. These kinds of stories take my smile away.
I haven't seen any TdF yet. Apparently there was some exciting stuff....a wreck...a TTT...hmmm, gotta get caught up on that too.

Ahh. Don't wipe your smile away. I'm doing just fine. Things are the way they are and I have to deal with them the best way I can.
My wife is in a terrible place right now and it's up to me to do what I can to help her. Even if it's giving her space for a while.
I'm still trying to analyze the situation and do what's best for all of us - kids included. If that means staying, then I'll stay. If not, then I'll leave. I'm dealing with some stress but who wouldn't be. Other than that I'm ok. Well, maybe a little heart broken.
I've been talking to a good friend here recently. I spilled my guts and we're sort of chatting back and forth helping each other. I've been given some good advice. Some positive reinforcement. Mainly, don't be hasty and run like a fool - just yet. Even though my wife is acting the way she is it's real not who she is. This has been going on lately because of some real bad sh** that happened to us and she's laying all the blame on herself and not working things out. She's trying to cover guilt with a lot of things and it's keeping her in a viscous cycle of blame, cover, guilt, blame, cover, guilt.
I promised my wife, through the good and the bad. This has been the bad. The real bad. But if I walk out right now and she falls deeper I would never get over it. She has no local family for support. No real network of friends for help. She has an NA sponsor but she still hasn't opened up to her like she should. So she's dealing with all this pain in the wrong way.
Last night we had a real good talk. I made her open her eyes to see what's really going on inside of her. What things she could do to repair her spirit. But it's up to her to make the first step. I told her that I would be there any time she needed support but I couldn't take that step for her. Now I just wait and pray.

Keep your head up sub, and good luck.
Makes me feel tight in the chest just reading that stuff.
You're a stronger man than I.

i put some mountain bike tires on my mountain bike for the first time in about 10 years. hoping to do some hill climbing at the ski resort, but i am not sure i'll actually be able to climb the access road (probably 12% and pretty technical with lots of big rocks and loose dirt) with my lowest gear of 22x25 (the bike was setup for road training before). should be interesting at least.

I mean, not for nothing, in all likelihood if you drive into a NYC garage with your bike on the roof you'll be buying a new bike and a new rack and starting a new thread with exploded carbon pics about how your bike ended up on the sidewalk. At least he had the common sense to ask first.

I don't think I'd even consider parking in a garage in NYC with the bike on a rack, even a hitch-mounted one, regardless of the overhead clearance.

Since she working here, in the office, we can go for walks during lunch. We had a good talk on a bench outside about our lives, our kids, and what we should do. It turned out rather well.
I know I'm not supposed to be superficial but this would be a whole lot easier if she was just god-awful ugly. But dressed up in office attire, with her hair all did up, makes it difficult to look at her and not remember when we first met and how beautiful she was.

so, I rode my bike a bit,
raced my bike a bit, yep.
and made witty at dinner parties with sly references to "A Modest Proposal" & some Assyrian army jokes.

c'mon man I'm not THAT clueless. my rack is a hitch rack.
thanks for the advice though guys, I have a few buddies in north jersey so I'll try and park there then go into the city.

right, because no one has ever driven into a low garage with a bike on the roof before. The truly clueless ones are those who don't realize sometimes **** just happens...even to smart people.

Speaking of racing (well, training to do such things), I went out and rode 4 straight days. I mean, outside. I haven't done that in a long while.
Don't think I'm racing this weekend. It may be a while before I am fully available to race mentally. I may go out and ride with the Freds on Sunday. Most of my mates are heading to the Omnium this weekend.
The weekend after is a hilltop finish race that I love. Cuz I love suffering. I may go do that just to get some things out of my system.

Saw Modern on TV, and another place near Pepe's (Sally's?, Patsy's?)...I forget. Going to head into New Haven Sunday after New Britain.
